Abrasion (dental) Abrasion is the loss of tooth structure by mechanical forces from a foreign element. If this force begins at the cementoenamel junction, then the progression of tooth loss can be rapid since enamel is very thin in this region of the tooth. The symptoms are: 1.The loss or erosion of the outer part of the tooth (enamel). 2. Sometimes the inner structures of the tooth are also involved. 3.The condition is often caused by brushing too hard but can also be caused by eating lots of acidic foods, acid reflux and excessive vomiting (such as in bulimia).
