It is cancer composed of cells derived from transformed cells that produce cartilage. Chondrosarcoma is a member of a category of tumours of bone and soft tissue known as sarcoma. The symptoms are:
1. Back or thigh pain
3. Bladder symptoms
4. Unilateral oedema
HOW IS CHONDROSARCOMA DIAGNOSED?
Oncologists diagnose the condition with the help of physical examination followed by an X-ray. Imaging tests like bone scan, CT scan, PET scan and MRI help in establishing whether the tumor is malignant or benign. The final confirmation of diagnosis is through biopsy of the tumor cells.
HOW IS CHONDROSARCOMA TREATED?
The treatment is done at specialized hospitals known as the Sarcoma centers. Surgical removal of the part of the body affected (amputation of arm, leg, etc.) is necessary in some cases.
