It is cancer composed of cells derived from transformed cells that produce cartilage. Chondrosarcoma is a member of a category of tumours of bone and soft tissue known as sarcoma. The symptoms are:
1. Back or thigh pain
3. Bladder symptoms
4. Unilateral oedema
HOW IS CHONDROSARCOMA DIAGNOSED?
The initial diagnosis, after the physical examination, will be done with the help of an X ray conducted by an orthopaedic specialist or general surgeon. Further, the doctor may conduct a PET, MRI or CT scan to study the extent of the damage. Also, a biopsy procedure will be conducted to ascertain possible malignancy.
HOW IS CHONDROSARCOMA TREATED?
The treatment is done at specialized hospitals known as the Sarcoma centers. Surgical removal of the part of the body affected (amputation of arm, leg, etc.) is necessary in some cases.
