Cholestasis is any condition in which the flow of bile from the liver is slowed or blocked. The symptoms are:
• Clay-colored or white stools
• Dark urine
• Inability to digest certain foods
• Nausea or vomiting
• Pain in the right upper part of the abdomen
• Yellow skin or eyes
HOW IS CHOLESTASIS DIAGNOSED?
Common diagnostic procedure includes a physical examination along with lab tests of the blood to evaluate liver functioning and the amount of bile salts in the blood.
HOW IS CHOLESTASIS TREATED?
Treatment of cholestasis depends on the underlying cause. Dietary substitutes may be recommended in some cases of fat malabsorption. In case of chronic cholestasis, oral absorbable, fat-soluble vitamin formulations and supplementation may be given
