HOW IS BRONCHITIS DIAGNOSED?
Acute bronchitis is usually diagnosed by an appropriate history and a thorough physical examination including the assessment of the respiratory system. The general physician will do a lung function test such as spirometry to assess the function of lungs and also a chest X-ray.
HOW IS BRONCHITIS TREATED?
Treatment for bronchitis is based on the type, namely, acute and chronic. For acute bronchitis, pulmonologists may prescribe usage of a bronchodilator and/or cough syrup, apart from advice for rest and avoidance exposure to smoke and dust. In case of chronic bronchitis, pulmonologists prescribe pneumonia shots. Oxygen therapy may be needed for patients who have very low oxygen content in the blood.
