Ulcer is a commonly found condition and there are 2 main types, Peptic Ulcers and Stomach Ulcers. In this condition there is excessive secretion of acids in the stomach which cause immense discomfort and the symptoms include burning sensation down the food pipe and can be accompanied by vomiting and stomach pain as well in some cases.
HOW IS ULCER DIAGNOSED?
To diagnose an ulcer, the doctor will review medical history along with symptoms and any prescription or over-the-counter medications taken.
HOW IS ULCER TREATED?
If your stomach ulcer is the result of H. pylori, you'll need antibiotics. For mild to moderate stomach ulcers, your doctor will usually prescribe the following medications:
• H2 blockers
• proton pump inhibitors
• over-the-counter antacids
• cytoprotective agents
Surgical procedures to remove the ulcers are recommended if the ultrasound scan shows bleeding ulcers.
