A sore throat is a condition that is characterized by pain, itching or irritation in the throat. You may experience difficulty in swallowing food or even liquids. Various therapies are prescribed to reduce throat pain. Painkillers such as acetaminophen and non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs effectively treat throat pain. Salt water gargles and sprays with topical anesthetic drug content are extremely effective. Penicillin is usually prescribed for treating strep throat.
