The problem of Rickets is defined as the defective mineralization or calcification of bones that usually happens in children as their bones are soft due to vitamin D, phosphorus or calcium deficiency. The child would suffer from bone tenderness and teeth problems. The child would also be prone to fractures very easily and would experience muscle weakness throughout the body.
HOW IS RICKETS DIAGNOSED?
Physical examination of skull,legs,chest,wrists and ankles.X-rays of the affected bones can reveal bone deformities. Blood and urine tests can confirm a diagnosis of rickets and also monitor the progress of treatment.
HOW IS RICKETS TREATED?
Most cases of rickets can be treated with vitamin D and calcium supplements.
