PULMONARY ALVEOLAR MICROLITHIASIS
Pulmonary Alveolar Microlithiasis (PAM) is an inherited disorder in which many tiny fragments of a compound called calcium phosphate gradually accumulate in the small air sacs located throughout the lungs. These deposits eventually cause widespread damage to the alveoli and surround lung tissue that leads to breathing problems. Some of the common signs of Pulmonary Alveolar Microlithiasis include cough, difficulty in breathing, chest pain, sneezing, and other such symptoms.
HOW IS PULMONARY ALVEOLAR MICROLITHIASIS DIAGNOSED?
This condition is diagnosed during a routine chest X ray. To confirm the diagnosis a pulmonologist may order a supportive CT or MRI scan
HOW IS PULMONARY ALVEOLAR MICROLITHIASIS TREATED?
There are also no medical treatments available for preventing or healing Pulmonary Alveolar Microlithiasis. There are some palliative options available that manage the calcium levels in the body to a certain extent but most of these are very ineffective.
