Overbite is a condition that is characterized by misaligned teeth. This is when your upper teeth close in front of the lower teeth. There could be a problem with the jaw bone alignment or the teeth alignment that causes this condition. People who have overbite may have symptoms such as problem with chewing. Frequent biting of the inner cheek is also a common problem.
HOW IS OVERBITE DIAGNOSED?
If you are facing symptoms like problems in chewing, talking and swallowing, your dentist may recommend a dental X ray to diagnose the issue. An orthodontist will also be included in the diagnosis so as to find out the exact type of misalignment which may have led to the overbite. This can be done with an impression of the teeth as well.
HOW IS OVERBITE TREATED?
Treatment for overbite usually involves braces. Doing so helps in shaping the upper teeth layer and prevents them from protruding too much in the front. Usually the earlier the treatment begins, the quicker are the results because jaw bones are softer then.
DID YOU KNOW?
Normal overbite is between 3–5 mm (and approximately 20–30% of the height of the mandibular incisors) and is commonly expressed as a percentage.
