There are different types of mouth sores. They can occur anywhere in the mouth including bottom of the mouth, inner cheeks, gums, lips, and tongue. Mouth sores may be caused by irritation from:
• A sharp or broken tooth or poorly fitting dentures
• Biting your cheek, tongue, or lip
• Burning your mouth from hot food or drinks
• Chewing tobacco
HOW IS MOUTH SORES DIAGNOSED?
The provider will examine you, and closely check your mouth and tongue. You will be asked questions about your medical history and symptoms. If your doctor suspects you have cancer, he or she may perform a biopsy and run some tests.
HOW IS MOUTH SORES TREATED?
Usually mouth sores go away on their own within 15 days. It is better to avoid extremely spicy or salty or hot food until the sore goes away. A steroid gel, anti-inflammatory medicines may be prescribed by the doctor
