Leishmaniasis is a parasitic disease caused by a parasite named Leishmania. Leishmaniasis is of three types namely Visceral Leishmaniasis, Cutaneous Leishmaniasis and Mucocutaneous Leishmaniasis. While this parasite typically lives in infected sand flies, a person can contract Leishmaniasis from a bite from an infected sand fly. The most common symptoms of Leishmaniasis is nosebleeds, difficulty breathing, weakness, weight loss, night sweats and scaly skin, among others.
HOW IS LEISHMANIASIS DIAGNOSED?
Diagnosis of the same would be done by a general physician, who would examine these ulcers and may run a few skin tests along with blood tests.
HOW IS LEISHMANIASIS TREATED?
Antiparasitic drugs, such as amphotericin B, treat this condition. The cutaneous skin ulcers heal without any medication.

There will be skin ulcers in cutaneous leishmaniasis, while in case of mucocutaneous Leishmaniasis, there will be nosebleeds and stuffy nose after the skin lesions subside.
