An infection from a parasite called Giardiasis is the cause of this disease and it usually affects your small intestine. This is a microscopic bacteria that spreads easily, especially if you have cats and dogs at home. The most common causes here of the same are nausea, diarrhoea or greasy stools, loss of appetite and also vomiting along with feeling of dizziness.
HOW IS GIARDIASIS DIAGNOSED?
Doctors confirm the diagnosis of giardiasis by taking stool samples and sending them to the lab to be examined for Giardia Parasites. Several samples may be needed before the parasites are found. The doctor may recommend Elisa test and enteroscopy for further diagnosis.
HOW IS GIARDIASIS TREATED?
Treatment of giardiasis includes use of antibiotics like Metronidazole. Other medications that help in treating the same are Tinidazole along with Nitazoxanide that is ideal for helping children suffering from the same. If you are pregnant and affected by this infection then medications like Paromomycin are given.
