Entropion is a problem where the eyelids tends to turn inwards and as a result, the lashes are rubbing vigorously against the skin. This may cause a lot of discomfort and also irritation. This is a common problem in adults, which affects the lower eyelids. Redness, irritation and pain are common symptoms here.
HOW IS ENTROPION DIAGNOSED?
The condition is easily diagnosed by a visual examination by an ophthalmology expert. The doctor may perform a snap test to confirm the condition.
HOW IS ENTROPION TREATED?
In most cases, surgery is required to tighten the muscles around the eyelids. The surgery is performed under local anaesthesia by placing stitches on the eyelid to turn it outward. Repeated surgeries may be needed in about 15% of cases as the eyelid tissues continue to loosen with age.
