Deviated Septum is a condition in which the nasal septum is significantly off-center or crooked. A deviated septum causes breathing difficulties. Some people are born with a deviated septum, while others develop deviation due to an accident. Symptoms are:
• Nasal congestion
• Difficulty in breathing
• Recurrent sinus infection
• Postnasal drip
• Loud breathing or snoring
HOW IS DEVIATED SEPTUM DIAGNOSED?
An x-ray will help in analysing the extent of deviation and take the corrective action.
HOW IS DEVIATED SEPTUM TREATED?
The treatment depends on the severity of the problem. Medication may be prescribed for more mild cases, while septoplasty for deviated septum surgery may be required to remove the excess bone or the cartilage which is creating the misalignment. This procedure usually works by making a small incision in the septum for the said removal.
