Dental abrasion is the eroding of the teeth caused by a foreign object. If the abrasion begins at the cementoenamel junction, then the erosion occurs rapidly leading to tooth loss. Symptoms are:
• Steady erosion of tooth structure
• Roughness of tooth surface
• Difficulty in biting
HOW IS DENTAL ABRASION DIAGNOSED?
Diagnosis of the same is done by a dentistry specialist who would check the extent or damage of the abrasion. An X-ray of the teeth could be done to check for internal damage.
HOW IS DENTAL ABRASION TREATED?
The treatment usually centres around tweaks in the dental oral hygiene habits of the patient so as to ensure that further thinning and abrasion of the enamel and tooth does not take place. Dental fillings and root canal treatment can be carried out.
