Colic is the name for excessive, frequent crying in a baby who appears to be otherwise healthy. It's a common problem that affects up to one in five babies. Colic is when an infant cries more than 3 hours a day, more than 3 days a week, for more than 3 weeks.
HOW IS COLIC DIAGNOSED?
The paediatrician will do a physical exam to identify any possible causes for the baby's distress, such as a blockage in your baby's intestines. If the baby is otherwise healthy, he or she may be diagnosed with colic. Lab tests, X-rays and other diagnostic tests aren't usually needed, but in unclear cases, they help to exclude other conditions as possible causes.
HOW IS COLIC TREATED?
Ayurveda and homeopathy have various medications which can help colic babies. Grandparents are the best to medicate babies with colic. Other medications like oral probiotic or anti-gas bubble medications can be prescribed. It takes usually 4 months to improve a colic baby.
