This is a debilitating condition that leaves the patient feeling constantly tired and exhausted. The feeling of fatigue does not allow the patient to indulge in normal day to day functioning. It may be caused due to low blood pressure, or a weak immunity system. The symptoms include persistent drowsiness, lack of concentration, memory impairment and pain in the muscles.
HOW IS CHRONIC FATIGUE DIAGNOSED?
Since there is no single test to confirm diagnosis of chronic fatigue, General physicians may look out for related health issues like sleep disorders, medical problems like anaemia, diabetes or hypothyroidism, and mental health issues. Each of these disorders require specific diagnostic tests like blood tests, psychiatric analysis, imaging test etc.
HOW IS CHRONIC FATIGUE TREATED?
There is no such treatment for chronic fatigue but the condition can definitely be managed. Use of medications will helps in dealing with body tiredness. Antidepressants and sleeping pills are found to be effective here. Graded exercise and psychological counselling will help in dealing better with the chronic fatigue condition.
