Chondrosarcoma is a type of ailment categorised as a sarcoma. It basically affects the bones and joints of the patient. This is a rare form of cancer that gives rise to bone tumours. Treatment depends on the location and aggressiveness of the disease. Surgery is the main form of treatment. Musculoskeletal tumour specialists or orthopaedic oncologists are usually chosen to treat chondrosarcoma. Amputation of the arm, leg, jaw or half of the pelvis may be necessary in some cases. Complete surgical ablation is the most effective treatment. Proton therapy can be useful in awkward locations to make surgery more effective.
