Chikungunya is a viral disease transmitted to humans by infected mosquitoes. It causes fever and severe joint pain. Other symptoms include muscle pain, headache, nausea, fatigue and rash. The most common symptoms are fever and joint pain. Other symptoms may include headache, muscle pain, joint swelling, or rash. Chikungunya disease does not often result in death, but the symptoms can be severe and disabling.
HOW IS CHIKUNGUNYA DIAGNOSED?
Blood tests can be used to diagnose the condition. Usually the symptoms of joint pain are significant enough and this is also the reason the virus causing chikungunya is classified as Arthritic Virus. The symptoms appear about 3 to 7 days after the mosquito bite. If you have been suffering from constant fever and severe joint pains and if you have recently travelled to any country where chikungunya is found, your GP may suspect this condition and conduct lab tests accordingly.
HOW IS CHIKUNGUNYA TREATED?
There is no vaccine to prevent nor is there is any specific Homeopathymedication to treat chikungunya. People infected are advised plenty of rest and lots of fluids to keep their body hydrated. Acetaminophen and paracetamol can be taken to reduce fever and joint pains.
