Cavities are a result of decaying tooth. Cavities can affect the inner layer and outer coating of the teeth. They are caused by food stuff clinging onto your teeth. Symptoms of cavities are:
• Toothache for cavities that have been there for sometime
• Pits or holes in teeth
HOW IS CAVITIES DIAGNOSED?
Cavities are diagnosed during a regular dentistry check-up. An x-ray may be prescribed to identify the extent of tooth damage and plan the treatment accordingly.
HOW IS CAVITIES TREATED?
In most cases, tooth cavities require a filling. There can be a variety of materials used here such as silver alloy, gold, porcelain or composite resin, all of which are deemed to be safe. Allergies to these fillings are rare. If the tooth is damaged to a greater extent, it is advisable to extract the tooth. Root canal may be needed if the pulp of your tooth is damaged.
