A Bartholin’s abscess can occur when one of the Bartholin’s glands, located on either side of the opening of the vagina, becomes infected and develops pus, that forms a lump or swelling. The symptoms include pain when walking, sitting, or having sexual intercourse is a common symptom.
HOW IS BARTHOLIN ABSCESS DIAGNOSED?
A gynaecologist diagnoses Bartholin's abscess by performing a physical examination to check for lumps within the vagina. They may take sample from the area to check for STDs. A biopsy may also be performed.

It is treated by using the following methods: 1. Sitz bath 2.Home treatments such as using a mix of tea tree and castor oil as an ointment on the abscess 3. Draining the abscess through surgery 4. Recurring abscess can be treated by Marsupialization.
