Astigmatism is a common condition that causes blurred vision. It occurs when the cornea is irregularly shaped or sometimes because of the curvature of the lens inside the eye. It leads to blurred vision at any distance. This can lead to eye discomfort and headaches.
HOW IS ASTIGMATISM DIAGNOSED?
The ophthalmologist can diagnose Astigmatism with a comprehensive eye exam. Astigmatism may occur with other vision problems such as nearsightedness and farsightedness. The exam may include Visual acuity, Keratometry/Topography, Refraction, etc.
HOW IS ASTIGMATISM TREATED?
Treatments include prescription of eyeglasses or contact lenses. Laser assisted surgery, such as LASIK may also help. Retinoscopy may provide an objective estimate of the eye's refractive error and Jackson's cylinder may be used to refine those measurements
