Acute diarrhoea is also known as loose or watery motions that can be caused by viral gastroenteritis. The rotavirus that causes this condition is also commonly found in children. Adults can also suffer from this condition when they are affected with ailments and infections like Traveller’s Diarrhoea. The symptoms can include fever with chills, nausea and vomiting, frequent trips to the bathroom, and a feeling of dehydration due to loss of water and salt from the system.

The diagnosis of this condition can be carried out by a general physician or a specialist in the Gastroenterology department. Usually, the diagnosis takes places with the help of a stool, urine and blood test to determine the existence of the bacteria or virus that has caused an infection.

Acute diarrhea gets cured automatically with time. Treatments can be done with medicines like antacids with magnesium, laxatives, few antibiotics, or even chemotherapy drugs. Sometimes surgeries are required to remove small parts of the intestine.
