I am 39 years male. I have been taking akurit 4 for the past 15 days for TB treatment. I have not taken alcohol but if I wish to take alcohol once, can I stop the medicine a day before and again start it the next day after consuming alcohol? Will there be any effects? I would like to inform that this would be only once as there is an occasion and would not repeat it till the course ends.

DNB(Respiratory Diseases), MBBS
Pulmonologist, Jabalpur
It is not advisable to stop TB drugs. Consuming alcohol with Anti TB medicine may have some raised risk of liver toxicity, but if their is such a dire need to consume alcohol so as otherwise you may be penalised for not consuming on that specific day and penality is more severe than you health needs that you are afraid to withstand that penality, then one may take alcohol keeping in mind the liver functions tests to rule out liver toxicity.

Lung TB since 9 months should have been cured till now if you have taken treatment. the level of exercise you can do depends on your lung health, because many time Tuberculosis leaves some permanent scars in lungs which can hamper the lung capacity.

Yesterday, I did a TB test. Doc told me not to itch but I did while sleeping at night. Will it be a prb?

DNB(Respiratory Diseases), MBBS
Pulmonologist, Jabalpur
I hope you are talking about mantoux test done over your forearm. If you have scratched it, it may develop wound, but if wound has not formed you need not worry, show to the doctor after its due for reporting .i.e after 48 to 72 hrs after injection.

Hello, lymph tuberculosis is not communicable that is you cannot spead it to others, but the person might have got the disease bacteria from a patient who had lungs tuberculosis and was spreading infectious bacterias in air while coughing, so you might have received this infection through a positive lung TB patient in the community
