Tips for asthma: 1. Take 11 guava leaves, 11 black pepper, 1 cup milk and one cup water. Put all of them in pot and boil it well, when it reduced to one cup, drink in empty stomach. Take this daily for at least six months or a year. 2. Boil cumin seeds in water and inhale the steam. It helps dilate the bronchial passage. 3. Take 5 gm of ginger, black pepper, cardamom, clove, cinnamon, turmeric and 30 gm of sugar. Grind the mix to a powder. Take half to one teaspoonful and mix it nicely with honey. Take it twice a day 4. Pulses like old rice (rice which is stored for at least one year is called old), wheat, barley, kulattha, mung beans, arhar beans, etc. Should be consumed. 5. Honey, warm drinks like herbal teas, spice teas are also okay. 6. Sprouts, nuts and seeds can be taken in moderate amount. 7. The heavy foods and those which make ama should be avoided. This mainly includes milk products like cheese, curd, butter milk, creams, and banana, etc. 8. Oily, greasy and fried foods which are difficult to digest should be avoided. 9. White flour and white sugar products should be avoided. 10. In addition, try to avoid the cold foods, cold drinks and other refrigerated things. 11. Avoid excessive or physically demanding exercise. First try to understand Asthma. Asthma is the hyper-responsiveness of the respiratory tubes to some allergen. Please note that I mentioned the word "Hyper-Resposiveness" and not responsiveness. If somebody sneezes/coughs on inhalation of smoke then its responsiveness as your body is trying to protect you but if somebody developes suffocation or choking because on the inhalation of same smoke the its Hyper-responsiveness where your body is trying to overprotect you. Asthma is this tendency. By medicines and Clean air we can protect you- but its very hard to say if we can completely stop this tendency. People who move to regions with cleaner air- get rid of asthma - atleast that is one way to get a cure !!! Recurrence of attacks of asthma may be due to some underlying uncured infection or recent persistent exposure to unclean air. Please do involve yourself in cleaning activities which cause increased inhalation of dust particles !

Treatment of asthma depends on frequency and severity of symptoms. If severe, then may need preventive medication for long period. Undertreatment is more harmful. Need to be managed appropriately. You shall show to a pediatrician. For good vision, take healthy diet. No particular vitamin supplement.

How to Deal With Asthma During Pregnancy

MD PULMONARY, DTCD
Pulmonologist, Faridabad
How to Deal With Asthma During Pregnancy

Asthma, the long term inflammatory disease, affects the airways of lungs. A number of symptoms, including obstruction of air flow into the lungs, which can cause breathlessness, coughing, wheezing, allergic reactions and swelling of the tubes, points to it. The causes include genes as well as pollution in the environment which is resulting in an increasing number of cases. The diagnosis is usually done with a spirometry and the treatment is a long term process.

Women who suffer from asthma have to be especially vigilant during pregnancy as it can lead to a number of complications including less air passage to the foetus. This can result in a slow rate of development and certain anomalies in extreme cases. So how can a pregnant lady manage asthma? Here are a few tips:

  1. Involve Pulmologist: To begin with, the obstetrician and the pulmonologist must both be well aware of the situation. The pulmonologist must be given detailed information with regards to allergies as well as past treatment and medical history so that the treatment is done systematically to prevent an asthmatic attack and any complications to the foetus.
  2. Lung Function: During pregnancy, the doctor must monitor lung function carefully with monthly check ups to ensure that the right amount of oxygen is reaching the foetus. This is done because the severity of asthma changes in most women during pregnancy. A spriometry or peak flow metre can be used to measure the lung function. Also, the foetal movements must be monitored on a monthly basis, or rather, once every 28 days, to be more specific.
  3. Influenza: Flu is a common outcome of asthma, especially when it becomes severe during pregnancy. The onset of flu or influenza must be prevented at all costs with the help of a flu vaccine that will be effective at least for a season at a time. It is a pregnancy safe injection.
  4. Triggers: There are many things that may trigger an asthmatic attack or an allergic reaction that can lead to the same. Ensure that you do not suffer from these triggers by avoiding dust, pollen, tobacco smoke and varied other substances that can lead to choking and wheezing.
  5. Medication: One must ask the doctor about pregnancy safe inhaled corticosteroids that one can take during pregnancy if and when the need arises.

It is recommended to take medication for asthma during pregnancy only after a consultation with the doctor. Also, do not reduce the dose of the medicine unless your doctor has recommended a change.

1.Keep a food diary. Chart what and when you eat every day for several weeks to learn about your eating habits and identify places to add calories. Online programs like MyFitnessPal and Fitday can make tracking easy-peasy. 2. Add it up. Try adding an extra 200+ calories a day in the beginning 4. Focus on quality, not quantity. Even when you?re trying to gain weight, burgers, chips, and milkshakes all day (?err day) isn?t great for a body. Instead, choose nutrient-dense foods from all food groups, Good options include whole grains like whole wheat pasta, fruits and vegetables, nuts, and lean protein. 5. Eat more frequently. And never skip meals! It?s easy to feel full fast when you start introducing more calories into each meal; changes in food intake might also bring on gastrointestinal issues and even acne. Make things easier on your belly by spreading calorie intake out over five to six smaller meals throughout the day. 6. Snack smart. Choose calorie-dense snacks like nuts, cheese, dried fruits, yogurt with granola, avocados, and pretzels or whole grain crackers with nut butters or hummus. If leaving the house for a while, pack snacks for calories-on-the-go. 7. Drink it down. Instead of diet soda and other low-cal drinks, choose filling, high-calorie beverages like smoothies, healthy shakes, or liquid meal replacements. Drink fluids in between meals to add calories and to avoid filling up on beverages during meals (which might make people eat less solid food). 8. Eat before bed. Consider this your permission slip for the midnight munchies. A lot of healing and regeneration happens while we sleep, so eating before bed can give your body the nutrients it needs to do the work. 9. Set attainable goals. And remember to be patient. Just like weight loss, weight gain is a process?and often a slow one, Cassetty says. Gaining might take years, so don?t give up hope if you don?t pack on immediate pounds. The rate at which a person needs to gain weight depends on their health goals and current health status, and a physician or nutritionist can help establish a reasonable goal weight. Signs of reaching an ideal weight include increased energy, stabilized hunger patterns, and overall good health. 10. Get support. It?s important to have a strong support system throughout the process of gaining weight, Cassetty says, both to help gainers achieve their goals and to cope with the emotional issues that might arise from bodily changes. 11. Dress well. Don?t put off feeling good about your appearance. Talk nicely to yourself and choose outfits that make you feel good

Hi rakesh here are 6 ways to gain weight healthily: 1. Eating 5 to 6 meals a day in order to gain weight, start eating 5-6 meals a day by breaking them into parts. Eating a lot at once may cause indigestion if the body fails to absorb all nutrients. Eat in small amounts, even if you are not hungry and there will be an increase in appetite from day to day. The aim should be to have a generously portioned breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as two to three snacks in between. 2. Start weight training if you build your muscles through weight training, it will convert the extra weight into lean body mass and also stimulate your appetite. The extra muscle increases the rate of metabolism. When you start exercising you will often experience extreme muscle soreness but it goes away in 3-5 days. 3. Load up on protein besides weight training, a protein-rich diet can help you gain mass. Eating a meal heavy in protein shortly after finishing exercise can be highly effective in adding extra pounds to your body. However, a diet focused only on lean protein is not helpful. It is important to make sure that your diet has plenty of fat in it. Eat foods rich in protein like cheese, meat, eggs, etc to gain weight in a healthy manner. 4. Workout your entire body a lot of people focus only on training the muscles on their arms, chest and shoulders and this is a grave error. Firstly, it will give you a disproportionate body; and it will make you prone to injuries. Therefore, it's important to work out the entire body for a complete and balanced look. 5. Drink your calories to reach the calorie requirement only by eating may be tough. Drinking milk, milkshakes or protein shakes with little or no sugar can be an effective way to load up on the calorie requirements. 6. Be patient and believe in yourself gaining weight quickly in a healthy manner is unrealistic. Every body type is different and it takes months to gain weight. Living healthy by eating the right diet will increase your strength. It is also important to keep following the routine even if you don't see any gains. Caution: junk food and fried foods must be avoided; although have a tendency to add more fat to your body but are very low in vitamins and minerals which are essentially required to keep you really fit. If you would like to consult with me privately, please click on'consult. Related tip: the most powerful way to put on weight - snacking right.
