Establish regular sleep hours. •Minimize distractions. •Your eating habits can influence your migraines. •Be consistent. Eat at about the same time every day. Don't skip meals. Daily Exercise lowers risk of Alzheimer's

It has been proven that older adults who burn calories in moderate physical activities like jogging swimming gardening and dancing are likely to have lower risk of developing Alzheimer's disease

Exercise-associated calorie burn can increase the level of grey matter volume in key brain areas which are responsible for memory enabling the active adults to protect their brain from cognitive decline

I had a first case of seizure when I was 14. My Eeg reports were abnormal and so neurologist had prescribed me 3 tablets of valprol cr 200 daily. The medication continued and the doctor had reduced the consumption from 3 to 1 tablet by the time I was 18/19. With no reported case of seizure, my medication was discontinued with me having normal Eeg. In 2010, after few years of discontinuing the medication, I had a case of seizure. This had happened in the morning, after heavy drinking the previous night and few hours of sleep. The very morning before the seizure I could feel shivers and me talking abnormally before losing consciousness. I had not informed my parents and Doctors about this binge drinking and my Eeg reports were also normal. I was again prescribed the same medicines for a year. Again, last November after a long night binge drinking I had seizure. This Sunday morning, after a year of the second attack, I had seizure in the morning after a late night party. I am not a heavy and regular drinker and I never had seizure attacks when I had consumed alcohol like this. I remember sometimes I use to get small kick type sensation if I would not have got proper night sleep or the morning after a small party. In these instances it will be like for a second, something like a small panic attack but I don't lose consciousness like I do in case of seizure attacks. Should I be worried? Should quitting alcohol help me not get any such attacks? What if I get such attacks when I am driving? Will medicines solve the problem?

Psychiatrist, Nagpur
There is no doubt that you rae prone for having seizure. You has seizure episodes almost a couple of times even when you were not drinking. Alcohol consumptions, decreased sleep, hypoglycemia etc are triggers for seizures in a person who is at risk of it. Definitely quitting alcohol and having a good sleep everyday would help you protect from seizures. However you still need an evaluation from a doctor. take care

My mother is 45 years old she got paralyzed last year on 1st jan. She is almost recovered but her fingers are still not responding. Please help!

BPTh/BPT
Physiotherapist, Delhi
Paralysis cases takes a lot of time to recover. You need to have patience. Also emphasize on passively moving her fingers frequently in day. Make sure she grips some large cylindrical objects first like glass and then progress to fine objects like spoon, keys, plates.

You know the solution already. If you have migraine like headaches and you know precipitating factories then avoid them. For example as in your case. - avoid continued, unprotected sun exposure - have meals at regular intervals, do not fast - avoid foods that you are allergic to - have a restful and good sleep at night to prevent frequent relapses inspite of taking all precautions you need a course of prophylaxis for migraine.

Hello sir, my son suffering from right hand erabs palsy (brachial plexus nerve) give your advice.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
In cases of a simple stretch injury or mild tear, Erb’s palsy will heal on its own, but the child should receive physical therapy so that the arm does not stiffen. Gentle massage and range of motion therapy are used to keep the muscles strong and the joint from becoming contracted. More extensive nerve damage may require surgery. If the nerves cannot function properly, tendon transplants are sometimes used.

My wife aged 62 yrs diagnosed for Parkinson's taking rasolect. 5 ropark. 5 & pacitane 2 but no improvement. Please do help

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
Neurologist,
Parkinson's disease-kampavata (a neurological disorder) parkinson's disease is a neurological disease, or brain disorder, that leads to progressive difficulty with balance and coordination. In people who have parkinson's disease, nerve cells in a region of the brain known as the substantia nigra become damaged or die. These cells are important because they produce the chemical dopamine, which helps to coordinate body movement-basal ganglia. When dopamine-producing cells degenerate/die, the areas in the brain that control movement can no longer function properly, and symptoms of parkinson's disease eventually develop. Parkinson? s disease prevalence:- parkinson's disease can affect anyone, but it most often occurs in people who are over the age of 50. Only 15 percent of parkinson's disease patients are diagnosed before they are 50 years old. The prevalence of parkinson's disease is nearly the same in both men and women, and recovery rate is more in men. People with a family history of parkinson's may have a higher risk of developing the disease, but parkinson's disease is rarely attributed to genetics alone. Parkinson's disease symptoms symptoms of parkinson's disease usually develop after about 80 percent of the brain's dopamine-producing cells are lost. The main symptoms of parkinson's disease include? tremors (kampam)- tremulousness (uncontrolled shaking or trembling) of the hands, arms, legs, face, body is often one of the first indicators of parkinson's disease? rigidity. Profound stiffness or an inability to easily move the arms, legs, and trunk, pain and stiffness on neck muscles is another hallmark of parkinson's? bradykinesia:- describes the unnaturally slow movements that are characteristic of people with parkinson's disease? poor balance- parkinson's disease affects balance, leading to difficulty walking and impaired coordination. The symptoms of parkinson's are generally mild at first, but become more severe over time, until they eventually interfere with your daily routine. This is usually the point when treatment is recommended. The outlook for people with parkinson's disease parkinson's disease is a chronic, progressive condition, which means it is a lifelong disease that worsens over time when it is not treated properly. Each individual's situation is different, but in general, the first symptoms of parkinson's disease usually don't require treatment and may be restricted to one area or one side of the body. Movement of symptoms to the other side of the body? tremors that become more pronounced and interfere with activities? bradykinesia, or slow movement, that becomes disabling? difficulty with hand writing? impaired swallowing and chewing? speech that becomes monotone? poor balance and repeated falls? slow, shuffling gait (manner of walking)? stooped posture? facial expressions that become stiff and blank? chronic constipation? poor bladder control? sleep disturbances this progression is gradual in most people, but it may happen faster in some than others. Understandably, stress caused by the progression of the disease can lead to anxiety and depression. Ayurveda treatment: there is cure for parkinson's disease with ayurveda treatment, with ayurveda medicines and treatments we can relieve symptoms, slow down the progression and then we can completely arrest further degeneration of the of the cells, thereby we can completely control and cure the disease. If you are diagnosed with parkinson's disease, it is important to work closely with your medical team, so your medications can be regularly adjusted to help you remain as functional as possible for as long as possible. As far as parkinson's disease is concerned this is a brain related issue, so will surely effect the mind; so I recommend 49% treatment to patients and 51% treatment to family members.

I have a migraine problem in right brain. Please tell me ayurvedic remedies. I am not sure that it's a migraine problem. May be it some type of symptom also of that. It pained at noon time. It is from 4 years.

BHMS, DEMS
Homeopath, Pune
Ice Packs: Always opt for cold rather than heat to stop migraine pain. "Ice is an anti-inflammatory, missed meal=" Fluctuations in blood sugar can cause a cascade of escalating pain that sets up your migraine response, so don't go longer than 3 hours without food. Include a lean protein whenever you eat to help keep glucose levels steady Flaxseed=Some headaches are caused by inflammation, which can be reduced by consuming omega-3 fatty acids. Flaxseed can help provide headache relief because it’s rich in omega-3s. Flaxseed can be used as a home remedy in several forms, including as an oil and ground or whole seeds. CONSTITUTIONAL HOMEOPATHIC TREATMENT WILL GIVE U BEST RESULT

This is called as "sleep paralysis". It usually occurs during REM sleep and is a type of sleep-wake disorder, when your brain is awakened from form sleep but body is not yet. So u tend to have a feeling of inability to move. Usually if it occurs once in a while it is physiological. But if it occurs more often then I would suggest you go for a Sleep study and complete evaluation with EEG
