Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. I have gone through the details given. I do see you really have a problem, which is directly related to drinking alcohol (whether beer or otherwise) and consumption of pan packets. Secondly there is no mention about your blood glucose control. No fasting, PP glucose levels and HbA1c% as well as no mention of current treatment (quantitity & type of Insulin being taken as you have T1 DM). Plus you are also stating there is some problem with liver which I am sure is a direct consequence of excess alcohol consumption. However, all the information is very general. There are no specifics like liver function test reports, blood glucose levels, LFT values, drugs being taken with dosage. All these are required for making any meaningful suggestion or for giving an advise. However, othing is sure and that is you will have to STOP alcohol (in whatever form) totally. Similarly pan and tobacco products too have to be stopped. Blood glucose has to be controlled effectively. (fasting < 100 mg, PP 150 to 160 mg & HbA1c% <6.8). Exercise regularly and take balanced and healthy diet. If you want any specific advise please come in a private conversation (paid consultation) with all the above mentioned relevant details then I will be able to do the needful. Thanks.

Preserving Your Fertility

Preserving Your Fertility

Doctors believe that all women are born with a certain quantity of eggs as well as chances of conception. Also, all bodies are unique with individual strengths and weaknesses. Fertility tests can help in unravelling a number of issues as well as the health of your reproductive system as a whole. It is important to address various lifestyle issues in order to retain your fertility and ensure that you have a hassle free conception. Read on to know more about the ways in which you can preserve your fertility.

  1. Oral health: There are a number of medical studies that go as far as suggesting that the state of the woman’s oral health is a significant factor when it comes to the proper functioning of her reproductive system. Many women who have required treatment for infertility are said to have suffered from oral health problems like inflammation and gum disease. One needs to avoid these issues so as to have more reproductive success. So, it is important to brush and floss on a regular basis in order to have better oral and reproductive health.
  2. Food: When we are talking about oral health, how can food intake be too far behind? In order to maintain good oral health, it is important to take care of your eating habits. One should steer clear of excessive sugary food intake as well as junk food intake which end up harming the gums as well as the overall system of the patient. Also, you must avoid eating processed carbohydrates like white bread and white rice. It is also a good idea to get your proteins from plant sources rather than animal sources. Furthermore, it is also a good option to strike trans fat off the list and to pick unsaturated fats instead. This kind of a diet is known as low glycemic diet which keeps the sugar levels stable. This helps in boosting all body functions in general, including one’s fertility.
  3. Smoking: As per a number of medical studies, about 13 per cent of the infertility cases are linked with excessive smoking. Tobacco has an adverse effect on the state of your fertility, and it usually makes the eggs deteriorate at a much faster rate. It can also cause early miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy, which is a dangerous condition where the egg gets lodged in the fallopian tube. Smoking can also bring about early menopause.
  4. Vitamin supplements: Many doctors suggest that once a woman has entered her child bearing years, it is important to start taking multivitamins as these contain folic acid. Folic acid is an important nutrient that helps in foetal growth and stimulates ovulation. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a gynaecologist.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. In your info there is no mention of the place where you are staying (town/city). It is best to visit any experienced surgeon or surgical hospital for initial treatment. Bets is to consult a Diabeteic Foot specialist in the aera. Later based on his advice further treatment should be carried out. First and foremost is to achieve a strict blood glucose control, otherwise healing becomes a problem. Plus proper debridment is also needed. Thanks.

From the Diabetes Point of veiw, we need to intesify ur treatment and start on what is called as a basal bolus regimen of insulin. I hope u r seeing a Gastroenterologist for ur varices. If i may ask, what was the cause for your varices? were u taking too much of alcohol ? You are on maximum amount of tablets . Controlling sugar is prime importance to u for the optimal health.

My dad is 48 years old and he is recently discovered with a 15 mm gallbladder stone. He has also high blood sugar level. So my question is, is it necessary to have surgery only for removal of stone or it can be dissolved with medicine? if surgery is required than what kind of surgeries are available.

a 15 mm stone is a fairly big one, if the surgeon has advised about surgical removal, he must have done considering all the aspects. Only medication is not going to be helpful in resolving the stone. If there is no major symptoms and difficulties the surgery can be delayed. Ursodiol is the drug used to dissolve the stones but stones do come back. Hence surgical removal of gall bladder is a better option even in a diabetic patient. Removal of gall bladder is done in most well equipped hospitals.
