How should I control diabetes?

AUTLS, CCEDM, MD - Internal Medicine, MBBS
General Physician,
How should I control diabetes?
Following are the tips to prevent onset/or control diabetes 1-Losing Extra Weight:-is the most significant thing which can make a big difference to your health . It helps lower your blood pressure and cholesterol too. waist of more than 80 cm in women & 90 cm in man are at risk 2- Constant and regular food timings :- it will improve your metabolic activity and helps reducing your weight. 3- Split your meals and eating in moderate amount:-Splitting your meals into 3-4 times per day (including snacks)and eating in fair amount, improves your metabolic rate as the food u take is not concentrated at one time. 4- No long Gaps and skipping of meals:-Never miss out breakfast. 5- No overeating:-Never eat in a bulk on one time Remember to eat your food slowly, chew well. 6- Proper Exercise and work outs:-Exercise is a fast way to trim down calories, extra weight and controlling glucose level. Brisk walking for 30 min. atleast five times a week is the best . You can also try Cycling, swimming, dancing. Timings for exercise should be fixed and regular.Do not eat right away after a workout . 7-constant and regular timings for medication 8-Avoid fried foods ,meat, fats and sweets.  9- Take high-fibre and complex carbohydrates:-like oats .Add whole grain foods in your diet. Avoid white bread, pasta, pizza , candies, and snacks .Instead include high-fiber carbohydrates like wheat bran, flaxseed and methi seeds to your wheat flour. This will increase fibre in your diet. 10-Drink enough fluids:-Keep your body well hydrated.  11.Fresh vegetables and fruits:- these contain a lot of minerals as well as nutrients .Include sprouts in the diet as they are easily digestible

Doctor I Havilland problems off diabetes so doctor sir tell me what can I eat daily replay me doctor.
Mr. Lybrate-user, if you have diabetes, is it t1 or t2, are you on tablets or insulin injection please tell me that. Looking at your age it is necessary to know. Diet will depend on severity of diabetes, (blood sugar levels), body weight. The person with diabetes has follow these guidelines: avoid sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries, sweetened aerated drinks, high fat milk products, highly processed foods and alcohol. Consume more of green leafy vegetables and salads. You can eat permitted fruits about 100 g a day. Use whole grain products and avoid refined flour like maida. But most important is to control sugar levels very effectively. Fasting should be closer to 100 mg, and pp should 150 to 160 mg and hba1c% <7.

Hi I wanted to know that people who have diabetes can they eat sugar to a certain measure. Please help.

Hi I wanted to know that people who have diabetes can they eat sugar to a certain measure. Please help.
Mr Jayesh, In diabetes mellitus, lack of insulin results in problem with carbohydrate, fat and protein metabolism. But high sugar levels is obviously seen effect. Sugar is sucrose which is containing one molecule of glucose and one of fructose. So taking sugar increases blood glucose level almost immediately. Hence it advised to take sugar. In fact roti, chapati, potato, rice, other grains, legumes all provide carbohydrate and ultimately give glucose. But the process takes a little longer. So it always advised to eat complex carbohydrates and avoid simple ones like sugar and sweets.

If you are vegetarian for ethical and other personal reason, then you want to be sure to include plenty of high protein plant based foods. I do not encourage regular consumption of soy "designer" foods such as energy bars. Tofu and tempeh would be better choices. Over consumption of gluten - the protein portion of grains such as wheat and oats - is also not the best choice, especially if you experience any GI disturbances. Nut butters, such as almond, are good. I was vegetarian for a long time, but realize how much better a "machine" I am now that I eat eggs and fish. 2 eggs in the morning can carry me successfully for many hours. This is giving my adrenal glands the support they need. Fish provides those heart healthy fats we all need; salmon is the number one choice. You'll just need to figure out your approach, and get a food chart to see how much protein is in the foods you choose. All grains and beans have protein, it just takes more. Your diet is now more carb focused, so it does require more fine tuning to stabilize your blood sugars. You can include flax seed oil which might work for you, but folks with long standing diabetes often need fish oil. A multivitamin, B-complex can be purchased anywhere. Just make sure your vitamins are hypoallergenic, preservative free, etc.

I have high tsh and normal t3 and t4. The report says I have mild subclinical hypothyroidism. I have done the test twice and got the same result. What measures should I take with respect to my diet, exercise and sleep? Also is it possible to cure it completely? I'm 42 and female. What other health risks should I look out for? Thank you.

You need to start the medication if not started, If already on the medication then you need to increase your current dose. You will need to reduce your weight by following a proper diet & doing regular exercise... however that can happen only once your TSH is normalised.

My mother is 30 years old and she is suffering from uric acid problem from many months. What is solution of this problem.

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine
Internal Medicine Specialist, Faridabad
A high uric acid level can be caused when your body either produces too much uric acid or your kidneys don't eliminate uric acid rapidly enough. A high uric acid level may cause increasingly frequent attacks of gout, or it may never cause problems. A high uric acid level may also cause some people to develop kidney stones or kidney failure. And some people with a high uric acid level also develop high blood pressure, heart disease or chronic kidney disease, but it's often unclear whether this is a direct cause or merely an early warning sign of these conditions. Factors that may cause a high uric acid level in your blood include: Diuretic medications (water pills),Drinking too much alcohol,Genetics (inherited tendencies),hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid),Immune-suppressing drugs,Niacin, or vitamin B-3, obesity, psoriasis, Purine-rich diet — organ meat, game meat, anchovies, herring, gravy, dried beans, driedpeas, mushrooms and other foods Renal insufficiency — inability of the kidneys to filter waste Tumor lysis syndrome — a rapid release of cells into the blood caused by certain cancers or by chemotherapy for those cancers,Also, you may be monitored for high uric acid levels when undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatment for cancer. Avoid protein diets, avoid more milk products. bad habits , fast food/fat/oily,salty foods. Coffee, smoking, alcohol intake. Non-veg., take whole grain, oats, green veg.,plenty of water in day time, 1 glass of water at night before bed. Take tab. Zyloric 100 mg once a day. Tab. Ulracet sos for pain in joints.

lybrate-user, If you have hypothyroidism, then treatment with thyroxine needs to be started. With treatment it is essential to bring TSH level between 3 to 4 mU/L, then only all the symptoms will be in check. Thanks.

You have not replied my question Whether Diabetic patients can drink honey, lemon, with water in the morning.

BHMS
Homeopath,
You have not replied my question
Whether Diabetic patients can drink honey, lemon, with water in the morning.
Dear lybrate user, lemon & water has nothing to do with the blood sugar level. But in case of honey you need take it in limited amount. First of all you need to be clear that the honey which you are using is free from added sugar or saccharine. To check this just keep the honey in the deep fridger of your refrigerator for 24 hours. If you notice that the honey has solidified after 24 hours of cooling then immediately discard it. Real honey which does not contain added sugar or saccharine won't get solidified even after cooling for 24 hours. Do not take such honey which contains added sugar or saccharine now from your stated information I can conclude that you are going to take honey & lemon juice mixed water in the morning to get rid of excess fat. Kindly remember that honey will help to get you more fat more fat if you take it with cold water if you are willing to lose weight then I would advise you to squeeze a lemon and mix it juice in a cup of lukewarm water & add one teaspoon of honey in that water & drink it early morning in empty stomach.
