How long a cancer identified patient can survive. Could you give the possible approximate period!

DNB, MBBS

There is no specific pattern. It all depends on stage, pathology, patient's immunity to fight the disease, response to treatments and other unknown genetic factors. No specific time can be attributed to it.

Breast Cancer Myths and Facts

Most breast lumps are not cancerous
True or False

Don’t panic if you find a lump. Most aren’t cancer. Many women have lumps caused by fluid-filled sacs called cysts or a buildup of scar-like tissue. But a new lump or mass that is hard, painless, and has rough edges may be more likely to be cancer. Breast cancers also can be tender, soft, or round.
Watch for breast pain, swelling, dimpling, nipples that hurt or leak liquid, or any redness or thickening of the skin. Always see your doctor if you notice anything different.

Hi lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking guidance here. Can you throw some light on the cancer (s) that you see in your family? I would advise you to get in touch with a cancer genetic counselor who will help you understand the hereditary component appropriately and also advise on what can be done to prevent it. A cytogenetic analysis will help assess the risk, if any, precisely and the same can then be managed appropriately. As a generic prophylactic measure, however, its advisable that one adopts a healthy diet & lifestyle, and remains socially active throughout, further details of which can be suitably arrived upon, basis the study results. Hope this clarifies. Take care and all the very best.

Hi, my wife is 38 years old and have two daughters (11 4 old F/M child). She is having pain in breast nipple point. After consulting the doctor she is taking B-LONG Tab 1 per day. She is thinking that have breast cancer. Can you please advice?

MS - General Surgery
General Surgeon, Pune
Most common symptom of breat cancer is lump in the breast or the abnormal nipple discharge. The suspicion is high if the discharge is reddish. In those cases sometimes even mass is not felt but still the possibility of the breast cancer is very high. Breast cancer pain appears generally at late stages. The usual cause of nipple pain is small crack in the region which can be treated quite easily. Please consult a surgeon nearby who after examination will answer your questions and take out your fear.

How identity breast cancer? Any symptoms on our body? Any home test? Clinical test cost how much?

MBBS, DNB (General Surgery)
General Surgeon,
Self breast examination should be done by all ladies after the age of 40. Kindly learn the method from a doctor. Self breast examination can lead to early detection of any lump in the breast. Symptoms are lump in breast, nipple discharge, skin changes over breast etc. General symptoms would be weight loss loss of appetite breast pain which may be seen in in many other conditions also. Tests cost would differ from institute to institute. Government hospitals would do it for a minimum. The ideal way to go about it would be to visit a surgeon and get yourself examined and then go ahead with usg and mammography. Based on history and your test results the doctor would advise you further follow up.
