Nutrition For Children

Homeopath, Gurgaon
Nutrition For Children
A healthy diet helps children grow and learn. It also helps prevent obesity and weight-related diseases, such as diabetes. A healthy dose of fiber, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants is essential to maintain a healthy growth of body and mind.
Ensure a mix of whole grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts and dairy on a daily basis.
Promoting fruit and vegetables consumption is essential for good health both now and in the future. An easy way to remember this is to serve a fruit and vegetable at each meal and one at snack time. Having your child fill up on produce will keep them from snacking on high- calorie, but empty nutrient varieties of junk food.
It is hard to binge on fruits and vegetables as the fiber has a satiating effect; kids will stop when they feel full. With junk food, the salt and sugar present cause an addictive eating response whereby the child continues to eat and eat, never feeling satisfied.
But we live in a world empowered by media; and children, being the most susceptible part of our society, are heavily targeted by media. This brings us to a point where most of us give in to the demand for junk foods and as a result, nutrition suffers. While we may let our children and ourselves too indulge once in a while, eating healthy as a routine for the entire family would go a long way in establishing eating patterns for their life.

My girlfriend is 18 years old and she is 4 weeks pregnant and we want abortion. What should we do. How much time it will take and what is price of abortion.

BASM, MD, MS (Counseling & Psychotherapy), MSc - Psychology, Certificate in Clinical psychology of children and Young People, Certificate in Psychological First Aid, Certificate in Positive Psychology
Psychologist, Palakkad
Dear user. Abortions can be performed as early as an intra-uterine pregnancy can be identified by ultrasound, which is usually about 3-4 weeks after your Last Menstrual Period (LMP). In the first trimester, two options are available: Aspiration is done by a physician in the clinic or the Abortion Pill which you take at home. Do not take any decisions before consulting your gynecologist. Take care.

Recently married couple and her age is 18 years 6 months. We had sex frequently after her periods from day 5 to 25 days. Now she has confirmed pregnant after 47 days. She told me before marriage baby and all after 2 years. Now she don't like baby right now and she wants to be free bird. My question is that if we go abortion or destroy baby formation any problem comes to her health and future baby required also. Pl suggest me as soon possible. My age is 30 complete.

Hi, the most common side effects of abortion pills are nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. A woman can also have some fever. These are generally less severe if misoprostol is used vaginally. If there is heavy bleeding. Common side effects of d & c (dilatation & curretage) include nausea, bleeding, and cramping which may last for two weeks following the procedure. Although rare, the following are additional risks related to dilation and evacuation: damage to uterine lining or cervix, perforation of the uterus, infection, and blood clots. **********better to consult a gynaecologist before taking any decision and use any of the available contraceptive method to avoid unwanted pregnancy rather choosing abortion to avoid it!********

I want to have sex with my girlfriend without using condom and I don't want her to get pregnant. What is the safe and healthy tips please suggest me?

MBBS, MS - Obstetrics and Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Nagpur
Dear lybrate-user nice concern. If cycles are 28 to 30 days regular then before 7th day and after 23rd day are safe times. But this has a high failure rate of about 10% too. Here counting of days is like 7th day means 7th day from when period began. Day 1 is first day of period. Condoms take little timebto adjust. But they prevent from pregnancy as well as infections. So best to get used to them in some time. All the best

My name is Lakshmmi Aparna. My age is 30, my husband age is 35. I got my periods on March 4. I am trying to conceive for almost 9 months. My health is good. My medical reports also normal. Can you suggest me any fertility medicine for conception?

BASM, MD, MS (Counseling & Psychotherapy), MSc - Psychology, Certificate in Clinical psychology of children and Young People, Certificate in Psychological First Aid, Certificate in Positive Psychology

Dear user. FERTILE PHASE is the phase of a female's menstrual cycle when an egg (ovule) is released from the ovaries. In humans, ovulation occurs about midway through the menstrual cycle, after the follicular phase. The few days surrounding ovulation (from approximately days 10 to 18 of a 28 day cycle), constitute the most fertile phase. So if you have ejaculatory sexual inter course from day 10 from the first day of period and to day 20, the chances of pregnancy are much more. You must also understand that there are many other factors which determines the pregnancy. Take care.

My cousin has a fibroid in her uterus she delivered a baby girl who is 6 months old now the doctor advised her to get operated when the baby is of 1 year old should she get dat operated or can it get cured by medicine.

MS - Obstetrics and Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Ludhiana
Hi, first of all I wants to clear you that 1- there in no medicine available for the treatment of fibroid uterus 2- all fibroids don't need any treatment. 3- fibroids are innocent tumors & very slow growing 4- it's size increases during pregnancy but decreases considerably after delivery, 5- small fibroids don't causes much problem. Problems with fibroids are usually due to it's size &/or location. 6- treatment is only needed if there are symptoms. Treatment is only by surgery. So ask her to get done her ultrasound lower abdomen now & send me report. I want latest report.

How much it cost to consult a Dr. for mtp or for a surgical abortion. and is it safe to have mtp at the age of 18 due to a mistake happened.

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Mumbai
Pregnancy can be terminated with medicines (mifepristone and misoprostol) only till 7 weeks of pregnancy. You need to hurry to get the abortion done with medicines. Gynecologist only can write a prescription for her. There r very few side effects but they r easily manageable. Surgical abortion costs more and after 7 weeks that is the only option. Costs are dependent on clinic to clinic.

Hie I am 26 years old n I hv 2 children first is normal delivery a boy and second is baby girl with c section now I wanted to lose my weight so my baby is 10 month old what should I do to lose my weight please help me.

Diploma in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, MBBS
General Physician, Delhi
With a 10 month old baby are you feeding the baby? don't do drastic dieting if so. Eat more proteins like toned warm milk and curd with banana for minerals. Eat minimum or no sugar. Reduce grains also. Eat more of seasonal fruits and vegetables and exercise by going for simple walks but baby care if you are on your own is a full time exercise but do go out for walks to exercise and to meditate.

I am not interested in having children. What alternatives to hysterectomy are available?

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology, MBBS
Gynaecologist, Kolkata
That's a serious decision at this age. And hysterectomy just to avoid pregnancy is far too severe a solution. If you can afford ₹ 5000, best is a Mirena intrauterine device. It will give good contraceptive benefit and other positive health effects for the next 5 years. Effects are reversible on removal at any time. Copper T will cost lesser than ₹ 1000 but last 3 years, with mild side effects. After 5 years if you are still convinced not to conceive at all, go for laparoscopic Fallope ring application. This will block the tubes and cause permanent (but not absolute) sterilisation without loss of hormonal health. That's all.
