Is it ok to sleep after lunch in the afternoon for 1-2 hrs. Will I put on weight if I take a 1-2 hrs nap in the after...
Yes, It is absolutely OK and in fact recommended to have a small nap in the afternoon. But the nap should last for 30-45 minutes. And you are advised not to recline too soon after having your Lunch. Give some time for the food to settle in your stomach otherwise it may cause heartburn and acidity.

Dear Lybrate user. Delayed ejaculation (DE) is a common medical condition. Also called “impaired ejaculation,” this condition occurs when it takes a prolonged period of sexual stimulation for a man to ejaculate. Delayed ejaculation can result from certain chronic health conditions, surgeries and medications. Or it may be caused by substance abuse or a mental health concern, such as depression, anxiety or stress. In many cases, delayed ejaculation is due to a combination of physical and psychological concerns. Therefore you need to consult an urologist for diagnosis of the cause. Take care.

My sister is pregnant 6 weeks now using ivf. Doctors doubt if child brain is undeveloped. Leading to forced abortion. Please tell me which doctor to consult. My sister lives in delhi.

My sister is pregnant 6 weeks now using ivf.
Doctors doubt if child brain is undeveloped. Leading to forced abortion....
No doctor would suggest an abortion if the baby is healthy. So please do not get tense about it as the treating Dr. must have had all the investigation done to confirm about baby's status and then would have advised abortion. If still in doubt ,she can always tell her Dr. that she wants to go in for second opinion before going in for abortion.

Infection if always due to unclean hygiene condition of vaginal portion and decrease fluid intake. So, if you want that not occur again then keep clean and dry vaginal portion.

All you need to know about premenstrual dysphoric disorder

DGO, MBBS

All you need to know about premenstrual dysphoric disorder

Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) is a severe and more dangerous form of premenstrual syndrome (PMS). Premenstrual syndrome describes symptoms a woman may have a few days before her menstrual cycle. The most common ones include tender breasts, bloating, cramps, mood swings, and headaches. The symptoms of PMDD are similar to those of PMS but are severe enough to interfere with your routine work, social activities, and relationships.

What causes PMDD?

The exact cause behind this medical condition is unknown but most doctors and researchers believe that the disease is caused due to the bodily changes that you undergo due to the rapidly changing hormones in your body.

What are the most common symptoms associated with it?

The symptoms of PMDD show a very close resemblance to the symptoms of PMS, and they are mostly the same but differ in terms of intensity and severity. The most common symptoms of the condition include the following:

  • Mood swings
  • Depression or feelings of hopelessness
  • Unnecessary anger resulting in increased interpersonal conflicts
  • Tension and anxiety
  • Decreased interest in everyday activities
  • Difficulty in concentrating
  • Fatigue
  • Change in dietary patterns
  • Sleep problems
  • Physical problems such as bloating, breast tenderness, swelling, headaches, joint or muscle pain

How can PMDD be treated?

A host of effective and efficient treatments are available for the treatment of PMDD. However, this condition is diagnosed by a doctor only when the symptoms of the disorder are identified. The common measures to treat the PMDD disease are as follows:

- Good nutrition
- Exercise
- Medications
- Counseling

Pregnancy in any one is possible only on one day of cycle- the day woman ovulates. Trying from July 15 means maximum 10 trials. Couple should give 12 to 24 months to nature only if pregbabcy does not happen by that time should start undergoing tests. there are many tests and takes more time so one must have patience for tests as well as treatment after that.

Dear kindly do not stop any medication specially the one you are talking about on your own. It is too harmful for the patient and there are chances of bleeding and then irrerugular cycles. Kindly get a proper consultation before stopping or starting any medication. As far as weight is concerned there might be some other reason as it is highly unlikely to loose weight with these medications. Kindly take a proper consultation.

Procedure and Results of Dermabrasion

Procedure and Results of Dermabrasion

Dermabrasion is a skin related treatment used by cosmetic surgeons and dermatologists to cure a number of ailments that may leave your skin looking less than healthy. This method basically employs a technique that removes the upper layers of your skin with the help of a rough edged diamond wheel or a wire brush. These edges are called a burr or a fraise.

Here is everything you need to know about the procedure as well as the results that it can yield:

  • Areas and Conditions: The most common areas where this procedure is conducted include the face as well as the neck. It is mostly used to treat people who want to remove fine lines that form around the eyes and the mouth, as well as patients who are suffering from acne scars and other inflammation causing skin ailments as well as abrasions due to injuries.
  • Preparation: The procedure includes cleaning and marking the area that is being treated. This is the first step that helps in seeing exactly what needs to fixed, the extent of the damage and the intensity of the treatment to be employed. Following this process, the doctor will administer a local anaesthesia such as, Lidocaine that will numb the area before the actual treatment begins so that the patient does not undergo any discomfort. Also, with this purpose in mind, the dermatologist may also apply ice packs on the face and neck of the patient so as to make the skin even more numb and remain like that for a longer period of time. Additionally, the skin may be sprayed with a freezing cryogenic spray in order to retain the numbness and keep the skin firm enough for effective treatment. If the doctor is going to treat deeper abrasions or the entire face, then pain killers and general anaesthesia may be used.
  • Procedure: To begin with, a small area is exposed to the treatment at a time, rather than the entire area or face at one time. After the freezing spray is administered, the doctor may run the rotating brush or burr to remove the top layers of the skin. Gauze will be kept handy so as to stem any bleeding that may take place during the process. Finally, the area will be covered with the help of ointment and dressing.
  • Results: The recovery time is said to take anywhere between five to eight days. But this also depends on the severity of condition that was treated, as well as the area that was covered. Little or no pain may follow and regular cleaning will be required. To prevent re-occurrence or re-growth of the problem, follow up visits to the dermatologist will be required.

Causes, Risk and Treatment of Infertility

Causes, Risk and Treatment of Infertility

Infertility is a condition where a couple, trying to conceive in a natural way is not able to do so even after one year of trying. It is also a matter of worry for patients who are over the age of 35 years and those who are not able to conceive naturally even after 12 months of trying constantly. So here are the causes, risks and treatment for this condition.

Causes

There are many causes of infertility. It may be down to a condition present in one or both partners. As per a medical study, 20% of the cases of infertility are due to males, while 40% to 50% cases are due to problems in the female partner. 30% of the cases suffer from infertility due to problems in both males and females.

Ovulation and fertilisation are the main elements of the conception process and any condition in the female or male can upset either function, which can make it difficult to conceive. While abnormal sperm production and transport may be a common condition that leads to infertility in males, other factors like side effects of cancer treatments and too much exposure to toxins and chemicals can also play an important role in this regard.

For females, the causes of infertility may range from ovulation disorders, uterine and fibroid tumours, uterine and cervical anomalies, damage to or blockage of the fallopian tubes, endometriosis, primary ovarian insufficiency and pelvic adhesions. Also, factors like thyroid, cancer and medication leading to temporary infertility may be at play.

Risks:

There are a number of factors that put a male or a female at risk of infertility. Being in your mid 30s usually has an adverse effect on the ovulation and production of well functioning sperm. Further, smoking and tobacco are among the main causes of infertility in either partner. Excessive alcohol consumption may also lead to this problem. Being overweight or underweight can also make a person infertile. Further, not getting enough exercise and routine activities out of your day, can lead to this condition as well.

Treatment:

Male patients can go through a treatment for any existing infections, hormonal injections and medication, surgical options like vasectomy reversal and ART or assistive reproductive technology. Female patients can turn to medication that will stimulate ovulation, Intrauterine Insemination, and surgical processes to correct a uterine septum and remove endometrial polyps, or even a hysteroscopy surgery.
If these methods fail, the patient or the couple can always turn to methods like In Vitro Fertilisation. For other mild reasons, lifestyle changes along with a stress free environment can help in increasing the chances of conception.
