You are too obsessed with the remedies. First of all no food in isolation will help. And following so many remedies can drop your sugar levels. At the same time how will you know what works for you. Stick to a single remedy. For a diabetic it is best advised to have a diet planned as per the sugar levels, lifestyle and history. It's not about restrictions in food but a balance that helps. Though you can follow some guidelines - have small frequent meals. Do not fast for more than 2-3 hours. Avoid a very heavy meal at one time. Avoid fruit juices, aerated drinks or sugarcane juice, honey, jaggery or sugar. Avoid junk foods. Exercise and stay active. Do not attempt to try out too many remedies as you could go into hypoglycaemia. Sleep well. It's all a matter of discipline.

How can I treat uncontrolled diabetes mellitus type 1 preoperatively and also post operatively?

How can I treat uncontrolled diabetes mellitus type 1 preoperatively and also post operatively?
Hello Sir, You can control your blood glucose levels by following a good healthy diet, avoiding high calorie and high sugar food stuffs, limiting the intake of carbohydrates (rice, roti etc.), increasing the consumption of vegetables and taking adequate amounts of protein - dal, non-veg food etc. Kindly get your fasting and post prandial blood glucose tests regularly. Further get your HbA1C checked every 3 months. Your FPG should be less than 110, PPG should be less than 160 and HbA1C should be less than 6.5 % for good control. Kindly see a good diabetologist who can titrate your insulin doses. If you need any more specific information, please consult me privately through Lybrate. I hope this answer has helped you Thank you.

I had detected hyper thyroid in Aug 2015, t3-300 and tsh was 0.01. I was suggested to take neomercozile 20 mg for 30 days and then increase dose to 30 mg for next 30 days and 40 mg for 1 year. After 30 days I felt some changes so I did checkup and found that t3, t4 within range but tsh -32, someone suggested to stop pills immediately and I did the same. Few months back I again checked, tsh came down to 5.5, but last month its 8.5. What to do?

M B B S, M. D (Internal Medicine)
General Physician, Nellore
I think you were having thyroiditis when you were checked initially. During the thyroid damage & inflammation, a lot of thyroid hormone is released at once into the body. So, the reports suggest hyperthyroidism and so, you were treated with the correct medicine. But, I would have followed up with thyroid tests every 2 months because once, thyroiditis resolves and thyroid gland is damaged as a result, patient goes into hypothyroidism which is what your reports are suggesting after you stopped the medications. For TSH level of 8.5, if you do not have any symptoms, you need not take medications. It is called SUBCLINICAL HYPOTHYROIDISM. Repeat the tests every 3 months and if TSH level is still rising, then consult a physician or a medical endocrinologist for appropriate treatment and advise.
