For hair growth. Rubbing garlic can improve hair growth. And other ways to grow hair.

MBBS, Diploma in Venerology & Dermatology (DVD)
Dermatologist, Delhi
For hair growth. Rubbing garlic can improve hair growth. And other ways to grow hair.
Rubbing a chopped clove of garlic on your scalp can promote hair growth. However, it is best to stick to the remedies listed about as direct application of concentrated garlic can aggravate the scalp. You may make some dietary modifications for desirable results such as adding adequate amount of protein to your diet. Include skimmed milk, cottage cheese, lentils in diet. Vitamin C, Zinc and Vitamin B are other important nutrients for great hair health. So include lot of fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains in your daily diet. Amla juice will also help to control hair loss. Follow a good hair care - Oiling your hair with a mixture of oils like olive, sesame, coconut and castor oil keeps provides moisture to your hair and prevent them from drying and breakage. Once in a week apply a good hair mask. You can mix and prepare different types of masks using green tea, olive oil, milk, gooseberry, etc. You can also start with zinc and biotin supplements.

Alzheimer's Day - Tips To Help A Person Deal With It!

MBBS, MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Hyderabad
Alzheimer's Day - Tips To Help A Person Deal With It!

World Alzheimer’s Day is celebrated on the 21st of September each year. A number of organizations, from all over the world concentrate on raising the awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Alzheimer’s disease is a very common type of dementia. It falls under the group of disorders in which mental functioning gets impaired.

Life for an Alzheimer’s patients is quite difficult, but by following the following tips, you can support yourself and will also help you to cope with it.

  1. You have to accept the changes and accept that life will continue getting difficult. Instead of trying to cover your difficulties for protection from embarrassment, you should face the fact. You also have to accept the changes in your physical abilities and adapt to skills, which are beneficial.
  2. You should develop some ideal coping strategies. Try to be occupied and involved and respond to the challenges you face in everyday life. By practicing the coping skills you will be able to gain a sense of control in your life.
  3. Try to identify stuff. Make a list of all the tasks which seem challenging to you and try to develop coping strategies for these tasks. Prioritize your tasks and determine whether it is really necessary to overcome certain tasks. You should also strategize solutions and come up with solutions which would suit you best.
  4. You should set realistic goals and expectations for yourself and use the coping skills to deal with difficult tasks. In case of very challenging tasks, do not hesitate to take help.
  5. A daily routine or plan is required for keeping a track of several tasks. A schedule reduces the amount of time you spend to figure out something, simplifying your task and also prevents mistakes.
  6. Always approach one task at a time and take enough time to complete tasks. Do not give up on challenging tasks and take breaks to figure things out.
  7. Always remember that you have more than a single chance to solve problems. If one chance fails, you should adopt new strategies and try again and again with better assessment.
  8. You should identify the triggers which cause anxiety and stress. Knowing the causes will allow you to plan in advance so that you can prevent them.
  9. Keep in mind that your family, friends, pets, will power and prayers are sources of great strength and will help you get past any obstacle.
  10. You should accept help from others and do not hesitate or think about being dependent on others.

You should take the advice from your psychiatrist or from Alzheimer Association National Early-Stage Advisors in order to understand the challenges such as medications, management of schedules and dealing with emotional or relationship changes.

Rare Penis Rash From Lobomycosis

Rare Penis Rash From Lobomycosis

Rare Penis Rash From Lobomycosis

Rashes of the skin are common and often transitory, and that goes for a penis rash as well. Often one pops up for a day or two and then goes away, not causing a man any untoward concern for his penis health. But in some cases a penis rash is more persistent, something like jock itch, for example. Indeed, there are numerous causes of penis rash, including one which is thankfully rare - something called lobomycosis.

About lobomycosis

A Brazilian dermatologist by the name of Jorge Lobo first described lobomycosis (which explains where the "lobo" part of the name comes from). Lobomycosis is a rare disease, and although it can be found anywhere, the vast majority of cases occur in South and Central America. Among native tribes along the Amazon River, it is given an indigenous name which roughly translates as "that which burns" - which is an unfortunate indicator of just how comfortable lobomycosis can be.

Lobomycosis is a fungal infection, and the fungus which produces it is found primarily in the tropical regions of Latin America - which is why the disease is much less common outside of that zone. The fungus is found in both soil and vegetation, but it is also found in water. Surprisingly, other than humans, the only species which has ever exhibited signs of infection are dolphins.

It is theorized that simply brushing up against the fungus is rarely enough to bring about the infection. Usually, the infection comes when the fungus enters the body - for example, if a man has a wound, or perhaps through ingestion of fungal-infected water (although the latter is not well documented).

Lobomycosis presents initially as a small rash, in the form of papules or lesions, which may itch or burn - but which in some cases do neither. It tends to grow and spread slowly, but it can cover a rather large area of skin given enough time.

Lobomycosis most often appears on hands, feet, face or torso - but in the right circumstances, it can appear on the penis, presenting as a penis rash. It is suspected that in such cases, this may come about from immersion of the penis in fungal-infected water or, more rarely, from a man nakedly coming into contact with infected soil or vegetation. In either case, the penis presumably has a cut through which the fungus enters the area and begins to grow. It is also possible that a thorn prick or an insect bite may open up the area for infection.

Treatment

Lobomycosis is a rare disorder, especially outside of South and Central America. In most instances, typical anti-fungal creams are ineffective against it; some doctors have reported success with medication known as clofazimine. More often, the lesions need to be removed. This can be done through typical surgical procedures involving cutting them off. It can also be achieved through cryosurgery (freezing them off) or electrosurgery.

Once removed, the lesions rarely come back, so this is one penis rash that is not generally recurrent.

Lobomycosis (or almost any penis rash) may leave penis skin feeling sore or delicate, even after removal. Regular application of a top notch penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) can be a boost in helping the penis skin to heal more quickly. Since keeping the skin moisturized promotes penis skin healing, the best option is a crème with a combination of both a high-end emollient (many prefer Shea butter) and a naturally occurring hydrator (such as vitamin E). Penis skin also benefits from a potent antioxidant, such as alpha lipoic acid. This can help to eliminate excess free radicals which can damage the skin by encouraging oxidative stress.

Hair fall - Know The Causes And How It Can Be Treated

Hair fall - Know The Causes And How It Can Be Treated

Hair fall is a part of the natural aging process. However, sometimes, excessive hair fall may be the result of a disease or any other poor health condition. Knowing the causes and the available treatment options can help in dealing with the hair fall problem. Read on to find what might be causing hair fall and the ways to treat the problem.

Causes of hair fall
Several factors can be responsible for causing hair fall, and a few of the most common causes are:

  1. Excessive hairstyling: Using products that are chemically harsh on the hair can trigger hair fall. Also, using styling products excessively such as straighteners, hair dryers, rollers, or bleach may result in inflaming and scaring the hair follicles leading to hair fall.
  2. Underlying illness or surgery: Suffering from an illness such as syphilis, thyroid, or autoimmune diseases, or experiencing tremendous stress after surgery can cease the hair production or trigger hair fall.
  3. Hormonal imbalances: Hormonal imbalances due to use of certain medications, childbirth or health conditions can also cause hair fall.
  4. Nutritional deficiencies: Hair fall can also be triggered by lack of nutrition or over dieting or eating disorders.
  5. Use of certain medications: Use of certain medications and drugs, such as chemotherapy drugs or medications that boosts Vitamin A level can also contribute to hair fall.
  6. Hereditary: Sometimes, hair fall can also be hereditary; and in that case, treating it becomes difficult. However, with the help of surgical treatments such as hair transplant, heredity induced hair fall can be treated.

How can hair fall be treated?
Several treatment options are available, and based on the cause of the hair fall, the present scalp condition, and the severity of hair fall among other factors, a dermatologist may offer the below-mentioned treatments:

  1. Medications: From topical lotions and creams to anti-inflammatory medications, depending upon the cause of hair fall, these medications can boost hair growth, while calming the inflamed and damaged hair follicles.
  2. Scalp reduction: When hair fall results in baldness, then this particular treatment may become helpful as, in it, the bald scalp area is replaced with scalp areas that have hair.
  3. Hair transplant surgery: Hair replacement through surgical techniques can also be great when people suffer from hair fall due to hereditary reasons and has developed bald spots as a result of rapidly increasing hair fall.

Experiencing hair fall for a long term can not only cause one to suffer from baldness, hair thinning, and bald patches, but also can result in permanent hair loss.
