She is apparently alright. Weight is not the criteria for health. Obesity in children is grave health hazard. If she is active, she is healthy. You need regular advice on child rearing. And you may do a test for her, ask me privately.

You maybe suffering from allergic rhinitis and pharyngitis. You need to avoid the cause of your allergies and also take anti allergy medications. Please consult for prescription. If you have an infection and have fever you will need to do a course of antibiotics. For now do warm saline gargle and steam inhalation 3 times a day.

Hello, Babies of this age group have very varied stools. It is absolutely normal for your baby to not pass any stools for even upto 5-6 days. Also passing stools till 10-12 times in a day is also normal. Just watch for any vomiting / blood in stools / recent change in stool consistency.

At 7 and 8 months most babies need: Solid foods two to three times a day, plus about 24 to 32 ounces of breast milk or formula in a 24-hour period. About 14 hours of sleep in a 24-hour period – this includes nighttime sleep and naps.

All kids are different so is there learning capacity. She is too young don't get panic few kids take more time than other to start show her rhymes and try to speak with her as much as possible. T.V and Phone should not be used for longer time instead take her to park where she is able to play and speak with other kids. Once she start going to school she will be unstoppable so don't worry.

My son is 4 year old. He is not at all showing interest towards meal/food. Whatever he eats we have to make him eat forcibly. Consulted paediatrician and showed my concern if this is resultant of any worm, but he did not advise any anti-worm medicine. Now I am little worried about possible reason. Please advise what to do?

If you r getting relief after medicine n reappearing after stopping medicine, it appears that medicine might be discontinued before tt is complete for some reason or other. Pls continue tt as per advise of doctor. If tt is stopped after doctor advise, pls take 2nd opinion. It is difficult to advise without examination.

Reason for struggling cough and breathing deep is either latching is not properly or most likely her nostrils are blocked or gets blocked during feed. Take care of these. If there is milk Bank in your town you may give there excessive milk. If condition is not resolved, consult pediatrician.

In lactose intolerant babies, milk of any kind is not advised so mother's milk. Since you shall not feed baby. Milk is not prohibited for you. It is not curable.

My wife is 28 year old. We have two kids. She's breast is getting very loose how she can get it tight.
Your breasts should be examined by a plastic surgeon to check what needs to be done to tighten your breasts. Whether only tightening is required or tightening with breast reduction is required or tightening along with breast enhancement is required has to be assessed before the correct treatment plan is made for yo.

My daughter is 7 years old. She often gets fever. It starts suddenly, and increases up to 103-104F. She is vaccinated properly .Now we are using homeopathic medicines. It gives better results to her when compared to allopathy. But we are unable to control the temperature. It gradually increases up to 103f and reduces up to 100. 8f at early morning and again raises upto 103 by evenings. This condition remains for at least 3 days .later the temperature goes down to below normal and she becomes very weak .We consulted many doctors. All blood test reports are normal. But there is no improvement . She is studying 2nd STD and she is very active and intelligent too. What do I do for her? How do I know the actual reason behind her health problem? Please suggest me.

Diploma in Child Health (DCH), MBBS
Pediatrician, Akola
Probably your daughter is suffering from repeated viral infections. It is most common type of infection in children. Most common causes are. 1-exposure to cold surroundings. 2-eating or drinking cold items. 3-coming in contact with patients suffering from contagious (spreading) diseases 4-being in crowds 5-physical weakness due to malnutrition (protein, carbohydrate or iron deficiency). Give her high protein diet like daal, eggs, chana, milk etc. Give her green leafy vegetables, jaggery groundnut chikki, dried black grapes, beet root to raise the haemoglobin. 5 pieces of almonds, 2 of walnut and 1anjeer will be very beneficial to her.

Deficiency of Iron in Children

PALS, MD, MBBS
Pediatrician, Delhi
Deficiency of Iron in Children

For the growth and development of children, they need an essential nutrient Iron. It helps in the transfer of oxygen from lungs to the body's tissues. Red blood cells contain iron in the hemoglobin. The hemoglobin carries oxygen in the blood to the different parts of the body. Iron has an important role to play in the development of brain and generating energy in a child's body. The lack of sufficient iron in the child's body can lead to anemia, which is a nutritional deficient illness and will require medical attention. When a child suffers from anemia, the lack of oxygen makes a child weak and sick.

There are certain symptoms of Iron deficiency in a child's body. These are:

  1. Infections and weak immune system can make a child suffer from frequent infections.
  2. Lethargy and fatigue is another common symptom of an iron deficient body. Due to deficiency of Iron it is difficult for the body to transport oxygen to cells in the body and hence it unable to generate enough energy levels.
  3. Breathlessness and increased sweating can be a sign that your child may be suffering from iron deficiency.
  4. Pica Children suffering from iron deficiency may find a special taste for non-food substances like chalk, dirt and clay.
  5. Lack of iron in the body hampers the physical growth of a child.

The deficiency of iron in children can be diagnosed through blood tests. Your doctor may recommend supplementing iron content orally or through multivitamin medicines. But the deficiency of Iron in a child's body should be taken care of with absolute urgency.

Proper steps should be taken to prevent the deficiency of Iron in children. Those notable precautions are mentioned below:

  1. Balanced diet: A well balanced diet is always recommended. For older children (within 9-12 years of age), red meat, chicken and fish would suffice as good sources of iron.
  2. Oral iron supplements: Oral iron supplements would be required for children with low weight at birth and who have a deficiency of iron in their daily diet.
  3. Vitamin C: Foods such as strawberries, tomatoes and potatoes help in providing the sufficient iron content when included in daily diets, thus reducing the chances of anemia.
