For Edward syndrome (Trisomy 18) and Patau syndrome (Trisomy 13) there is high risk. Hence you will have to do Amniocentesis to rule out the risk.

I have one kid he is 25 months old he was drinking only milk not eating food so please solve my problem.

Diploma in Child Health (DCH), MBBS
Pediatrician, Gurgaon
Firstly if your child is bottle fed, immediately stop his bottle feeding. Give milk up to three times a day by glass. Give four semisolid meals in a day. In case he doesn't eat, do not give milk instead. Eat with him. This should gradually improve the situation.

Precautions for diabetic patients during Ramzan fast

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
“Patients with type 1 diabetes should avoid fasting. However, those type 2 diabetes can fast,”
All diabetic patients who fast should be aware of certain facts if they fast during Ramzan, he further added.
All patients with diabetes should consult with their family physician regarding the Ramzan fast and learn the warning symptoms.
Type 2 diabetes will be controlled by diet and may require no special precautions.
Patients at risk of diabetes should avoid overeating to prevent post meal high blood pressure, after the predawn and/or sunset meal.
The exercise program for patients with diabetes on diet control should be modified to avoid lower blood sugar level. Exercise should be done 2 hours after the sunset meal.
Food restriction and dehydration may cause some cardiac risk in the elderly.
The choice of drugs in diabetes may require consultation with a doctor. Drugs that act by increasing the production of insulin are to be preferred. Some patients on metformin may fast safely with minimal complications. However, two-thirds of the total daily dose should be given just before the sunset meal and rest one-third before the predawn meal. Patients on pioglitazone may require no change in dose. Patients on sulfonylureas may require medical clearance before commencing fast.
Insulin dose also needs to be modified during the fast. Usually two doses of insulin, one before each meal, are sufficient.
If the blood sugar falls below 60, then the fast should be immediately broken.
Fast should also be broken if blood sugar rises to more than 300.
Patients should avoid fasting on sick days.

Is Your Toddler A Late Walker?

MBBS, MS - General Surgery, MCh - Pediatric Surgery

Is Your Toddler A Late Walker?

Some babies learn to walk by the age of nine to ten months, and others may take longer, much longer to start walking properly. By the age of 15 months, people may start asking you if your little munchkin is able to walk yet. These constant questions can eventually irk you off, and keep you wondering if truly your baby is facing any sort of disability or not. In most cases, you will probably find your baby was too lazy to start walking all along, and he has mastered the art of “toddling” a couple of months later. Other times, when your baby has not started walking in over 17 months, you may want to give your paediatrician a visit.

When should you not worry?

If your baby is an active child and is playing around normally, you may not worry about him or her too much. If you find your child able to move around crawling or rapidly kicking his legs around, then your child is probably a late bloomer when it comes to walking. Other factors that will indicate that your baby is not going through any developmental issues are when he or she is able to communicate with sounds or broken speech. Other thing that you must keep in your mind is the relative age of your baby if it is born premature. If your toddler was born two months prematurely, then you must consider his developmental age by adding two months to his actual birth. Also notice if your child is able to move positions on his own, like if he is able to change positions when he is sitting down or lying down. As such, inability to walk is not really a solid indicative of a developmental disorder.

When is it of concern?

When you go to your paediatrician with your child regarding his inability to walk, your doctor will firstly take a note of the general movement of your baby. Thus the “quality” of movement is what matters the most. If your baby is showing signs of rigidity or flaccidity in his limbs, it may concern your doctor, as it is the primary symptom of cerebral palsy. Nothing can be concluded unless your get proper reports of scans like MRIs which your doctor will recommend you to get.

If your child is not walking, avoid carrying him around too much to allow him to make movements on his own. Who knows, you may find yourself chasing him around all over in no time! Consult an Expert & get answers to your questions!

My son's age is 5. He has dust allergy normally he starts to cough a lot but in india doctor used to give Allegra and it used to work. Last 5 months back shifted to London. For the last 15 days onwards, he is constantly coughing but very less during the night time but the coughing increases after having any food or milk. The doctors are saying the chest is clear and has given ventilin evohaler.

MD PULMONARY, DTCD
Pulmonologist, Faridabad
As the chest is clear and ventilin evohaler is not showing benifit, you can try allegra surup again. As the cough is after feed, every care should be taken that child is not aspirating during feed, which can occur if feed taken in hurry or in faulty posture.

Hi my children s are active and healthy. My son is 7years weight 20kg. My daughter 9years 30kg. Just want clear that they are in normal weight or abnormal any healthy drinks for childrens and as well as for me with milk.

DNB Paediatrics, DCH, MBBS
Pediatrician, Delhi
Hello lybrate-user, the weight parameters of both your children are in the normal range. Since your daughter maybe approaching the pubertal age group soon, that's when the growth spurt happens so make sure you give a healthy balanced diet comprising of more of proteins like milk and milk products, soyabean, eggs, paneer etc in their daily meals. Also exercising is a must. 3 major meals and two snacks will be helpful in providing adequate nutrition. You could give vitd and calcium supplements to meet the daily requirements. Hope that helps.

Your child needs a personal consultation with pediatrician to rule out any serious illness. If your child is having difficulty in breathing, bluish discoloration, not able to feed properly, poor activity then he needs urgent evaluation. Keep the child supported in upright/ semi reclined position while feeding, this will reduce chances of choking& regurgitation. Watch when your child cough, is there any relationship to feed, any allergy, any other symptom like fever, difficulty in breathing .sometimes occasional cough are normal.

My son is 12 years old and he still has the habit of bed-wetting, what could be the reasons, and how can I help him get rid of this problem.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
During childhood, some kids don't produce enough anti-diuretic hormone (ADH) to slow nighttime urine production. Stress. Stressful events — such as becoming a big brother or sister, starting a new school, or sleeping away from home — may trigger bed-wetting. Urinary tract infection.o combat bedwetting, doctors suggest: Shift times for drinking. ... Schedule bathroom breaks. ... Be encouraging. ... Eliminate bladder irritants. ... Avoid thirst overload. ... Consider if constipation is a factor. ... Don't wake children up to urinate. ... Don't resort to punishment.
