How To Get Rid Of Skin Tags?

How To Get Rid Of Skin Tags?

A skin tag is a diminutive, harmless, extension of skin that is usually attached from beneath the skin by a tiny support stalk. These skin tags are seen in places which are exposed to frequent friction with clothes or areas that have more skin to skin friction. They hang out from the skin surface. They commonly occur in the neck, underarms, groin, and upper chest. Medically a skin tag is termed as an acrochordon. Often skin tags are also identified as soft warts, fibroma pendulum, pedunculated fibroma, or soft fibromas.

Reasons why they happen
Skin tags comprise of blood vessels surrounded by skin and loose fibers of collagen. Collagen is a kind of protein located all through the body. Anybody can develop a skin tag irrespective of gender and age, but elder people are prone to skin tags especially those who have type 2 diabetes.
Skin tags tend to evolve in the layers of the skin folds, where the skin rubs against itself as mentioned earlier, but it is also observed that few individuals get skin tags without any such reason. This is also a reason why skin tags occur more in overweight people as they have more skin folds that are susceptible to chafing.

Why should you get them removed?
Most skin tags don't need treatment as they are harmless, but at times people do tend to discard them for cosmetic purpose or may be out of discomfort when they rub against skin or clothing. Checking with your physician in case you doubt the shape of the skin tag and suspect a cancerous element. In such scenario, you will be recommended biopsy for further proceedings if any.

How is a skin tag removed?
A skin tag is removed through few procedures. Your doctor can consider any of the procedures mentioned below:

  1. Cryotherapy: Cryotherapy requires chilling the skin tag with nitrogen fluid. Your physician may spray or swab a little amount of liquid nitrogen onto the skin tag. After the treatment, you may have a small blister which will heal by itself.
  2. Surgical removal: In the case of surgical removal, the skin tag is cut with a scalpel or scissors. The cut might sometimes be deeper in which case the cut will require stitches. Surgical removal has the advantage of obliterating the skin tag, but there is a risk of minor bleeding. Removal of skin tags doesn't require a full anesthesia. Local anesthesia is sufficient.
  3. Electro SurgeryElectro Surgery is another remedy where the skin tag is burned with electrical energy in high-frequency. The heat is applied through the narrow stem that holds the skin tag to the skin.
  4. Ligation: Ligation is yet another method where a surgical thread is tied up to remove the tag.

There are also natural remedies, such as using lotions or essential oils over a period or also over the counter medicines but then a doctor’s advice is always essential to prevent the scope of any scarring, to bleed or other such side effects. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

The hormonal imbalance in our body trigger oil glands to produce excess amounts of an oily substance called sebum. When sebum, dead skin cells and bacteria clog up your pores, inflammation sets in and pimples develop. Oily and fried foods disrupts hormonal activity in your body leading to inflammation which drives up oil gland production, making your skin oilier and inviting to acne bacteria and pimples.------------------ homoeopathic treatment------------------ topi berberis cream (wilmar schwabe india) apply during daytime------------- repl no 11 (repl) 20 drops in 1 spoon water 3 timess daily-------------- aquiplus cream (hapdco) apply thick coat on face at night------------------ cleano face wash (lords) wash face with this face wash before applying creams------------ drink 6-8 glass water daily---------- drink 2 glasss milk daily----------- avoid fast food, junk food, fried food, chocklates, dry fruits, ketchups, cold drinks.----------------------------------- the percentage of dark spots increases as the exposure to the sun increases too. Since the rate of melanin would be decreases, it leads in turn to the darkening of the skin. So, apply sunscreen (homoeopathic suncare cream of bakson company), every time you go out and follow the recipes below in order to get relief from dark spots.-------------------------- instead of using the chemical products for your skin, try using some natural home remedies. Using home remedies can work out to be much cheaper than chemical based products and they can help treat your condition without any side effects. Caring for your skin is highly important. Here are some home remedies that allow your skin to be free of dark spots, black spots or pimple marks or even acne scars on the face.------------------ 1. Take a medium sized tomato and squeeze the juice from it, add one tablespoon of lemon juice to the tomato juice and stir the mixture well. Apply on the face and let it dry for 20 minutes. Rinse the face with warm water.----------------- 2. Take pulp from aloe vera leaves and let it dry in the sun for 5 minutes and then add few drops of lemon juice to the dried pulp. Apply this mixture on the face and wash it off after 15 minutes. The results are quite good.----------------------

Focus on eating lots of leafy green vegetables, berries and clean protein.Increase consumption of wild fish, grass fed meat and cage-free chickens.Healthy fats are essential to good skin health and treating acne breakouts at home, so include foods rich in omega-3s like wild-caught salmol.Add zinc rich foods such as kefir, yogurt, lamb, pumpkin seeds and chicken. Eat more high fibre foods since fiber found in vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds supports cleansing the colon and growth of good bacteria in the gut.Add vitamin A   to your diet, including spinach, carrots and beef liver. Foods to avoid for acne-free skin include  hydrogenated oils, gluten, wheat, sugar and conventional cow’s milk dairy products. Sugar and carbohydrate rich foods – Consuming excess amounts of sugar and grain products can feed yeast and candida in the body increasing acne. Gluten and wheat – These foods cause inflammation of the gut which affects the skin. Chocolate – Is high in compounds that can trigger acne.  Eliminate chocolate completely if possible but if you consume it then make sure it’s pure dark chocolate. Fried and fast foods – These foods contain a number of ingredients that cause inflammation including hydrogenated oils, sodium, chemicals, flavorings and sugar. Hydrogenated oils – Causes oily skin and are one of the main causes of acne.  Hydrogenated oils can be found in foods like pizza and in packaged foods that contain soybean oil, corn oil, canola oil, and vegetable oil.

Wounds VS Bruises

FHM Fellowship In HIV Medicine, MD, MBBS
General Physician, Hyderabad
Wounds VS Bruises

Wounds and bruises are both injuries. However, they differ widely in terms of the causing factors, the nature of the injury, the pain they cause and the kind of treatment they require.

The following are a few of the myriad ways in which the two injuries differ from each other:

  1. A wound causes quick damage - the skin tissue is cut or punctured while a bruise (also called a closed wound) is where the skin is not torn.
  2. A wound is usually caused by a sharp object but bruises are the results of blunt force or trauma.
  3. A wound almost certainly bleeds due to ruptured tissue and blood vessels. Blunt injury also damages the blood capillaries of the skin and causes blood to accumulate under the skin tissue, creating a dark patch of skin. Blood vessels can also break due to lifting of heavy objects or overexertion of muscles.
  4. A wound carries the risk of infection because the skin is open but a bruise does not get infected.
  5. A wound has a burning or stinging sensation but a bruise is characterized by swelling and a blunt throbbing pain.
  6. A wound can be healed by antiseptic and antibiotic medication. Large wounds need to be closed by stitching them up to avoid severe infection. On the other hand, a bruise usually heals by itself. A cold compress and pain killers may be used to ease discomfort. Heat can be applied to the injured spot to normalize the blood flow and dissolve the blood clot.
  7. A wound can lead to complications like bacterial infections or the healing might be delayed by chronic diseases like diabetes. In case of a bruise, it usually does not cause complications but if there's a blunt injury to sensitive areas like the head, the tailbone or the eyes, medical attention is advised.
  8. Wounds and bruises can also be differentiated on the basis of their subtypes.

The different types of wounds are:

  • Incision (sharp objects cutting the dermis layer of skin)
  • Abrasion (the epithelial tissue is scraped off)
  • Avulsion (a body structure is torn off)
  • Penetration (a sharp object causes an entry and an exit wound)
  • Puncture (only an entry wound caused by a sharp object)

The different types of bruises are:

  • Hematoma (blood pools under the skin)
  • Purpura (tiny spots of blood on the inside of the mouth)
  • Contusion (similar to hematoma and caused by external trauma)
  • Crush injury (caused due to a large amount of force on the body part for a long time)
