Hello, thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You will have to elaborate your problem as to a detailed discussion of your neck pain which means duration of pain and mode of onset. You have mentioned that your fingers get numb occasionally and you are also a diabetic. We will have to actually see whether this numbness is due to your long standing diabetes or spine issue. My advice for you will be: - to get a detailed neurological examination (both motor and sensory done for yourself) so that I can understand whether there is any compression at neck region - please send me your x rays and mri cervical spine region - you should continue with anti inflammatory medications, adequate sugar control, medications for neuropathic symptoms like pregabalin and/or gabapentin, vitamin b12 supplementation, adequate calcium and vitamin d supplementation etc. Once I have investigation reports with me, I will be able to advise you in a better manner. Please also tell me about any associated symptoms like fever, weight loss etc. What medications you generally take and what has been your treatment history till now for existing problem. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

You might need to go for corrective surgery depending upon the angle. Have you gone for any x-ray if you can share it.

No harm but depends upon how one uses it. Sleep on a hard plinth with mattress over it. Learn isometric neck exercises from a physiotherapist and follow his instructions seriously. You may skip a meal but not exercises.

70% of patients recover from back pain by following the recommendations below. 1. Exercise Moderately - Moderate activity that does not significantly worsen the pain is often helpful. Prolonged bed rest is not necessary for most back problems. In fact, staying in bed for more than two days may increase the pain and stiffness. 2. Take Anti-inflammatory Medication - Anti-inflammatory medicines, such as ibuprofen can help ease the pain and swelling. Your doctor also may prescribe muscle relaxants to ease muscle spasms. Muscle relaxants, however, often cause drowsiness. 3. Apply Ice and Heat - Ice or cold packs can reduce the pain and swelling of a muscle strain or spasm (tightening of the muscle). Use ice or cold packs for 20 minutes, three or four times a day during the first few days. 4. Improve Your Posture, Sleep and Weight - Good posture keeps the body’s weight aligned (straight) and reduces stress on the back muscles. When sitting, use a chair with enough lower back support or place a pillow behind your back. Change positions frequently.
