I had my angioplasty five years back From last one year I am having swelling in my leg. It worsens as the day proceeds. Nephrologist Dr. kale after seeing all test said there is no problem in kidney. All my heart test were also ok. I was diagnosed fatty liver last month. Please suggest.

Fatty liver is graded and if grade 2, it can be prevented from becoming grade 4 leading to liver failure. Fatty liver means presence of fat cells on top of delcate liver cells, causing pressure on them making their functioning low. You can/ cannot reverse fatty liver, opinion is divided for grade 2, no harm in using less fats & do some exercise who you must be because of cardiac condition, drink juice of lemon plus a spoon of honey with warm water on empty stomach in morning, drink apple cider vinegar, a spoon with honey or juice, all of the above burn fats in body including liver. Try for a month and get tested by ultrasound to know fresh status of liver. Remember healthy liver cells rejuvinate very fast, provided you do not take any toxic food or medicines like heavy antibiotics.

Exercise and Your Blood Pressure
Another benefit of exercise is lower blood pressure.

Exercise is beneficial to many health conditions, and hypertension is one condition that improves with exercise. The National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control, and the American Heart Association have promoted the benefits of exercise for individuals with high blood pressure. A meta-analysis, or a large study of 54 smaller clinical trials of aerobic exercise, found that systolic blood pressure, the top number, is reduced an average of 3.84 mmHg in individuals who exercise regularly.Diastolic blood pressure across these studies was reduced an average 2.58 mmHg. A meta-analysis of the effects of resistance training showed reductions of 3.2 mmHg systolic blood pressure, and 3.5 mmHg for diastolic blood pressure.

What Type of Exercise is Best?

Although both resistance activity and aerobic activity have shown benefits, there is an apparent link between resistance training and reduced compliance of the arteries. Compliance in the arteries means that the arteries expand when there is increased blood flow. If the arteries don?t readily expand in areas of high blood flow, it can cause blood pressure to increase. It appears that performing aerobic exercises with strength training negates this effect, and the overall effect of performing both resistance and aerobic exercise is a healthy blood pressure reduction.

Find An Exercise Activity You Enjoy!

You are more likely to exercise if you find something you enjoy. For some people, time alone while walking or running can be a rare moment for reflection.

Others may enjoy bicycling or rowing. These activities can be enjoyed alone or you can enjoy sharing your exercise time with a friend or neighbor. Team sports are good physical exercise, and like other forms of activity, they usually relieve stress. Fitness classes can help you lower your blood pressure and provide a wonderful social outlet.

Take It Easy!

When you begin a new exercise program, particularly if you haven?t been active, gradually increase your activity level. Listen to your body, as unusual aches and pains associated with exercise may indicate something is going on. Most people benefit from physical activity, but if you have a chronic illness, including high blood pressure or heart disease, you may want to check with your doctor before you increase your activity dramatically.

What About A Warm Up?

Everyone should incorporate a warm-up period and a cool-down period into their exercise routine. A warm up allows you to gradually increase your heart rate from rest. Try to warm up at least ten minutes when you begin to exercise. A warm up will also help you avoid injury to your muscles. It?s also important to cool down, so your blood pressure doesn?t drop too quickly when you stop your exercise. Stretching at the beginning and end of your exercise will help you avoid sore muscles and will increase your flexibility.

What Is My Target Heart Rate?

When you are exercising, you should monitor your heart rate by measuring your pulse during exercise. Your resting heart rate means your average heart rate when you are resting, and it is usually between 60 and 100 beats per minute. You can determine your resting heart rate by checking your pulse when you get up in the morning.

Athletes may have a lower heart rate. Some blood pressure medications can keep your heart rate low. If you are taking a medication for blood pressure, ask your doctor what your maximum heart rate should be.

To check your pulse, use the tip of your first two fingers, and press lightly on the blood vessels on the inside of your wrist near your thumb. Count the number of beats in ten seconds ? you will have to look at a clock ? and multiply this number by 6 to find out how many times your heart is beating each minute.

To determine your maximum heart rate, subtract your age from 220. Your target heart rate should be somewhere between 50% and 85% of your maximum heart rate. When you are exercising moderately, your heart rate will usually be between 50 and 69% of your maximum heart rate. With high intensity exercise, your heart rate can range from 70% to 90% of your maximum heart rate.

Checking Your Workout Intensity

When you are exercising, you should try to reach a moderate intensity to achieve maximum health benefits from your workout. If you are able to carry on a conversation when you are exercising, you are probably not working hard enough. You should be able to speak in short sentences while you are exercising, but if you are having a lengthy conversation, you probably aren?t working hard enough. If you have to stop to catch your breath while you are exercising, your exercise intensity may be too high. When you are in doubt, don?t forget to check your heart rate.

Dear Lybrateuser, - Elevated level of CRP is an indicator of inflammation in the body along with other parameters gives an indication of the cardiac health status - to prevent cardiac problems you have to follow certain precautions: - have a well balanced diet with more of fruits & green leafy & seasonal vegetables, whole grains, low fat milk & milk products, lean proteins, heart healthy fats in olive, canola oil, walnuts, fatty fish, avocados - avoid fried, processed & junk food, also alcohol & tobacco if you take - do regular exercise like brisk walking, jogging, also do yoga, meditation & deep breathing for 10-15 min daily morning - keep blood sugar, cholesterol & BP within normal limits.

What Is Pacemaker And How It Affects You?

The treatment of heart disease has come a long way and one of the more important and fairly common devices used to correct rhythmic problems of the heart is a pacemaker. A pacemaker is a device which is put inside the chest or sometimes even the abdomen to send electrical pulses to the heart to keep it beating at a normal rate.

Pacemaker for heart failure

However, the implications in case of heart failure make the usage of the pacemaker much more complicated. In such cases, the device used is a special type of pacemaker which is also called a bi-ventricular pacemaker. This device sends electrical signals to pump the ventricles of the heart so that they can pump at the same time.

There are many factors to be aware of before undergoing this treatment. Some of the factors to consider are mentioned below.

  • Requirement for a pacemaker in case of heart failure - When a patient has heart failure, their ventricles or lower chambers of the heart aren't able to pump enough blood into it. This could be due to physical problems with the heart or problems with the electrical system within it which cannot function normally. The doctor will perform multiple tests to determine whether a patient is the right candidate for a pacemaker for heart failure.
  • The procedure - In most cases the device is fitted into the chest and it is done without an open heart surgery. Precautions and post operative care for a minor surgery should be followed. The doctor makes a minor incision on the chest and then inserts the device along with three leads which are connected to the ventricles to ensure they keep pumping properly. Sometimes another device known as the ICD or the implantable cardioverter-defibrillator may be put in to shock the heart back to a normal rhythm in extreme cases where the change of sudden death from high heart rate is a possibility.
  • Immediate post operative care - As mentioned above, the surgery involved in putting a pacemaker is a minor one and the patient is usually discharged in next 2-3 days or may be more depending on the comorbidities & complexity of the scenario. However, in most cases, people can go home the next day fairly easily although some monitoring is done for the next few days with daily reporting. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Cardiologist.

Uneven chest muscles are normal. the fault may lie in your workout. In that case, you can easily take corrective method. When it comes to balancing the the dominate side of your body with its weaker side, using dumbbells will help. Make sure you use a balanced grip.

Lifestyle changes can help you control and prevent high blood pressure, even if you're taking blood pressure medication. Here's what you can do: Eat healthy foods. Eat a healthy diet. Try the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet, which emphasizes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, poultry, fish and low-fat dairy foods. Get plenty of potassium, which can help prevent and control high blood pressure. Eat less saturated fat and trans fat. Decrease the salt in your diet. A lower sodium level — 1,500 milligrams (mg) a day — is appropriate for people 51 years of age or older, and individuals of any age who are black or who have hypertension, diabetes or chronic kidney disease. Otherwise healthy people can aim for 2,300 mg a day or less. While you can reduce the amount of salt you eat by putting down the saltshaker, you generally should also pay attention to the amount of salt that's in the processed foods you eat, such as canned soups or frozen dinners. Maintain a healthy weight. Keeping a healthy weight, or losing weight if you're overweight or obese, can help you control your high blood pressure and lower your risk of related health problems. If you're overweight, losing even 5 pounds (2.3 kilograms) can lower your blood pressure. Increase physical activity. Regular physical activity can help lower your blood pressure, manage stress, reduce your risk of several health problems and keep your weight under control. One drink equals 12 ounces of beer, 5 ounces of wine or 1.5 ounces of 80-proof liquor. Don't smoke. Tobacco injures blood vessel walls and speeds up the process of hardening of the arteries. If your blood pressure is under control, you may be able to make fewer visits to your doctor if you monitor your blood pressure at home. Practice relaxation or slow, deep breathing. Practice taking deep, slow breaths to help relax. There are some devices available that promote slow, deep breathing. However, it's questionable whether these devices have a significant effect on lowering your blood pressure.

For control high T.G. and high/ bad cholesterol eat whole grain foods, green veg., juice, plenty of water at least 8 glass of water in a day. Avoid high cholesterol foods, oily, fatty, junk, fast foods, foods from out sided, Go for walk daily, do yoga, cycling, any good exercise i.e cycling , avoid stress, try to take good sleep at night. Checkup your body by blood tests and physical examination at regular time.

Take small frequent meals (5-6 meals/day instead of three heavy meals. If you have hyper acidity take one tablet of pan 40 in the morning before breakfast daily for few days 5.Do Yoga, Meditation, deep breathing exercise like pranayama etc. It will calm your mind, control your emotion and relieve stress. 6.Have sound sleep for 7-8 hours daily. 7.Avoid smoking, alcohol, excess tea/coffee, if you are having 8. I have a chronic breath and digestion difficulty when I smell smoke around me even its residue in lift, room or corridor. My mother is having high BP of 170/90 every time I check BP through BP monitor. But she is taking aten 50 every day in morning .The BP reduced to 144 /85 when she take the tablet and after a while in 4 hours if I check BP again it is back to same level of 170//90 .Please let me know how can I keep the BP normal despite this .Is aten 50 working at all? Or any other medication to be continued? She is 69 years old and has mild blood sugar. She stopped consuming salt and drinks enough water and doing exercise at least 30 min a day. Request your valuable opinion on it.

Dear lybrate-user, It may be necessary to revise the medication option. You will have to try a different combination to see if it helps more. Lower BP in the morning is nit much significant as it is natural after good sleep. BP taken different 3 times average during day is a better marker. Regards.

Hello dear High triglycerides and cholesterol can cause atherosclerotic heart disease or narrowed coronary arteries in the heart can cause the symptoms of angina, when theheart muscle is not provided with enough oxygen to function. Decreased blood supply to the brain may be due to narrowed small arteries in the brain or because the larger carotidarteries in the neck may become blocked. This can result in a transient ischmic attack or stroke. Peripheral artery disease describes gradual narrowing of the arteries that supply the legs. During exercise , if the legs do not get enough blood supply, they can develop pain , called claudication . Other arteries in the body may also be affected by plaque buildup causing them to narrow, including the mesenteric arteries to the intestine and the renal arteries to the kidney. Change life style .do meditation,yoga, Go walk daily, do any one physically activity daily i.e.play any game., Avoid fast foods,oily foods,junk foods,alcohol,smoking,fatty foods, non-veg.,avoid stress,take plenty of water in day time. And 1 glass of water before bed at night. use flax oil, omega-3 fatty meal or cap., take .green veg., whole grain. Garlic,. Cod liver oil. Take anti cholesterol medicines .

130/90 is normal BP for your age, But You have not mentioned the cause of his kidney failure. Kindly discuss that with his nephrologist to understand if you have any risk too.
