Yes you can run. Always try to keep an inhaler with you. You can take 2 puffs, 20 minutes before you start running which will help in preventing the attack.

I have been suffering from cough from last week what is the basic treatment for cure it at home.

Certified Diabetes Educator, Registered Dietitian (RD), PGDD, Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (B.U.M.S), General Physician
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
Firstly there's no lifelong cure for the common cold. Antibiotics are only effective against infections of throat and are of no use against cold viruses. Over-the-counter (otc) cold preparations won't cure a common cold or make it go away any sooner, and most have side effects. A saltwater gargle 1 teaspoon salt and 1/2tsp turmeric dissolved in a glass of warm water can temporarily relieve a sore or scratchy throat. To help relieve nasal congestion, try saline (pure salt water) nasal drops. If you have a throat infection, or a viral cold then I will prescribe appropriate meds based on your detailed assessment. Do reply back for medication prescriptions. Being also a general physician and registered dietitian, I prescribe both evidence based herbal as well as allopathic medicines complementing with dietary guidelines and home remedies carefully personalized for each individual patient.

I am suffering from dry cold since last month and also from cough. So tell me what should I do to release from cough.
Dear Lybrate User, *body should be kept warm especially feet, chest, throat and head. Sweating is very helpful. The simplest way to do it is drink hot spice tea or some other hot drink and lie down on the bed .Take some warm cover like blanket and let the body sweat for 15 to 20 minutes. *a glass of warm water mixed with one tea spoon of lemon juice and one tea spoon of honey can be taken 2-3 times a day. *case of dry cough especially if it trouble is during the night, take cardamom, dry ginger, black pepper and cinnamon in equal quantity, say 10 gms. each. Take white sugar or rock candy equal to the total weight that is 40 gms. Grind them and make a fine powder. From this take half a tea spoon ( about 3 gms.) twice a day with honey or warm water after meals. *Cold drinks, ice cream, sweets, fried foods, milk products like cheese, creams, yogurt etc. should not be taken. Hot milk without fat can be taken if boiled with a piece of crushed ginger. Half tea spoon of turmeric powder is good to mix with the milk. *you should avoid tomatoes, eggplant and bananas.

I have asthma and how can I get rid of asthma naturally and permanently with out any side effects please suggest me.

DAA, DNB
Pulmonologist, Bangalore
Hi. I understand your concerns. Asthma is a common allergic problem which is not curable but can definitely be controlled so that you can lead a symptom free life. You will need to undergo pulmonary function test which is needed for the diagnosis and also to assess the severity of asthma based on which treatment can be started. Consult a pulmonologist for the same. Hope your questions were answered. Thanks.

I am feeling some blockage type in my left sinus. I consulted with doctors they said it is chronic sinus also minor growth of bone too in left side. So I always feel cough and heavy feeling in my left nose. Is it good to make cleaning of my left sinus?

PG Hom, London, BHMS

Hello lybrate-user, one of the best ways to get relief from sinus problems is regularly taking steam inhalation. The steam will automatically clean the sinuses and will make you feel light. If as the doctors said, you bone is deviated, the best way to get relief from it is by undergoing surgery.

Hello. My friend is suffering from pneumonia and she had cough last week and her health is getting weaker day by day what should her parents do to cure cough.

DNB(Respiratory Diseases), MBBS
Pulmonologist, Jabalpur
She should take proper rest, adequate hydration and a balanced diet in small quantities increasing the number of meals in a day. Pneumonia gets cured by using proper antibiotics, but if the symptoms persist beyond 2 weeks then testing for tuberculosis is also recommended.

What is the symptoms of heart related problems? What is the first treatment at home.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
What is the symptoms of heart related problems? What is the first treatment at home.
You can save time during a cardiac emergency by planning ahead. Here are some ways to prepare for a heart attack and possibly increase your chances of survival. 1. Know the warning signs Not everyone who has a heart attack experiences the same symptoms, and some people have no symptoms at all. There are, however, some common ones you should know: Chest discomfort (pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain) Pain radiating to the arms, back, neck, jaw or stomach Shortness of breath Other symptoms, for example, sweating, nausea, vomiting or lightheadedness 2. Know what to do If you experience symptoms of a heart attack: Call 911 immediately. Because emergency personnel can begin treatment before you reach the hospital, transport to the hospital in an ambulance is the best way to receive prompt care. If calling 911 is not possible, have someone drive you to the hospital. Do not drive yourself to the hospital unless you have absolutely no other alternative. While waiting for help to arrive, chew a regular-dose aspirin to help prevent blood clots. Take with a glass of water. If you have been prescribed nitroglycerin tablets or spray for angina, take one to three doses to see whether symptoms are relieved. Lie down, breathe deeply and slowly, and try to stay calm. 3. Develop an action plan If you are at high risk for a heart attack, consider some of the following suggestions: Think what you would do if you had a heart attack in various situations, such as at home or while driving. Decide who would take care of any dependents. Make sure these backup people are willing to help out in an emergency. Write down a list of medications you are currently taking, medications you are allergic to, your doctors' phone numbers (both during and after office hours) and contact information for a friend or relative. Keep copies of this information in several places, such as at home, at work, in your car and in your wallet or purse. Give instructions to your family and friends. Tell them the warning signs of a heart attack and what to do if you experience these signs. Encourage them to take a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) class so that they can provide assistance if your breathing or heart stops before the ambulance arrives. Keep a bottle of aspirin in your home, car, office and toiletry bag. Always have your cell phone with you in case you need to call for help. I have been suffering from sinus from last 7 years. Kindly provide me best medicines to overcome?

Certified Diabetes Educator, Registered Dietitian (RD), PGDD, Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (B.U.M.S), General Physician
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
Do you have pain on cheek bones on pressing it? hot fomentation is really helpful in sinus besides drink fluids, such as water or juice. This will help dilute mucous secretions and promote drainage. Avoid beverages that contain caffeine or alcohol, as they can be dehydrating. Drinking alcohol can also worsen the swelling of the lining of the sinuses and nose. Moisturize your sinus cavities. Drape a towel over your head as you breathe in the vapor from a bowl of medium-hot water. Keep the vapor directed toward your face. Or take a hot shower, breathing in the warm, moist air. This will help ease pain and help mucus drain. Apply warm compresses to your face. Place warm, damp towels around your nose, cheeks and eyes to ease facial pain. Rinse out your nasal passages. Use a specially designed squeeze bottle (sinus rinse, others), saline canister or neti pot to rinse your nasal passages. This home remedy, called nasal lavage, can help clear your sinuses. If you make your own rinse, use water that's contaminant-free distilled, sterile, previously boiled and cooled, or filtered using a filter with an absolute pore size of 1 micron or smaller to make up the irrigation solution. Also be sure to rinse the irrigation device after each use with contaminant-free water, and leave open to air-dry. Sleep with your head elevated. This will help your sinuses drain, reducing congestion. Do reply back for medication prescriptions. Being also a general physician and registered dietitian, I prescribe both evidence based herbal as well as allopathic medicines complementing with dietary guidelines and home remedies carefully personalized for each individual patient.
