Besides brushing twice daily, I strongly recommend rinsing your mouth with plain water after each meal. Also, brushing should be done approximately after half an hour after the meal as this is the time when bacteria start to act on the tooth. And lastly, after the meal at night, one should rinse with half glass of lukewarm water with a pinch of salt added to it.

I was checking tips related to teeth on Lybrate and floss is recommended at a lot of places. Few of these questions popped up in my mind : 1. I am curious why it is not common in India? 2. I watched few videos on youtube to learn the proper way to floss. After watching the videos I felt like it will be loosen the gums as one is putting the pressure on them also. Second I felt like it will start thinning the enamel also from the teeth. I am worried unnecessarily or care should be taken while flossing?

Remember flossing is to be used only for cleaning the between the teeth areas and is used to prevent the deposition of food particles which can lead to infection and has to be used cautiously and even in india though slow the trend is picking up and remember if you have already loose teeth than not to be done and it won't thin the enamel lining.

Dear Please visit a good Oral Surgeon (a specialist dental surgeon) or any good medical or dental college or institute to first get the diagnosis (reason) of your condition. Please do not try to vague ideas to treat yourself, as until the cause is known there would be no treatment. This can be simple dehydration or may be the starting of some serious disease. I am not trying to scare you, just that I want you to know the cause of this, which may be insignificant also. For the time being take lots of water to keep your body hydrated. Good Luck, God Bless and Take Care.

Many with braces face prob of dental ulcers. To avoid ulcers request your dentist fr some clear wax which has to b stuck on the brackets. This prevents rubbing of sharp edges of brackets against your oral skin. Apply dentogel oral ointment twice to thrive daily on ulcers. Gargle using betadine mouth wash twice daily. Avoid spicy food, tea, coffee, aereated drinks. Rinse your mouth well after each meal n maintain hygiene. Ulcers generally take arround 10-14 days to heal.

The simplest method of removing minor surface stains is polishing, or micro-abrasion if staining is more intrinsic. Provided that your discolouration is not due to inadequate enamel exposing the dentin, tooth whitening (bleaching) is often the most effective treatment for yellow stained teeth. Advance procedures can be done with laser. Use snowdent tooth paste for whitening until then. Apply snowdent paste on the teeth. Wait for 10 to 15 min. Then brush your teeth with the same paste. Applying it overnight for better results.

I am pretty sure that your gums have not turned black over night. Black pigmentation of gums is because of a natural pigmentation called melanin. In addition Smoking can cause an increase in pigmentation and black appearance of gums. If you are a smoker then discontinuing this habit can result in reduction in pigmentation. However if you want to completely get rid of all the black pigmentation then there is a clinical procedure called gingival stripping. For this you would have to consult a periodontist who has experience in doing lazer gingival stripping.

Tooth Erosion - 9 Ways You Can Prevent it

Tooth Erosion - 9 Ways You Can Prevent it

Maintaining good oral hygiene is the key for enhanced gum and dental health. Tooth erosion is characterised by decay of the outer and inner parts of the teeth. It occurs when certain sugar containing foods such as milk, candy and cakes leave behind residual quantities, thus causing small food particles to get stuck to and remain in the teeth. These are then digested by the bacteria in the mouth and converted to acids. The acids in combination with saliva form a layer called plaque that causes tooth erosion.

To prevent tooth erosion, you can employ these simple methods:

  1. Regular flossing: Flossing is an often neglected aspect of dental hygiene. Flossing helps in removing food residues stuck between the teeth that your toothbrush cannot clean. Use proper technique while flossing as improper technique can damage your gums.
  2. Brushing twice a day: You should brush at least twice a day with toothpaste that contains fluoride. If possible, brush regularly after eating a meal.
  3. Eat well balanced meals: Eat well balanced meals for your gums to receive proper nourishment. Include plenty of fruits and vegetables in your diet as they are rich in antioxidants and vitamins. These antioxidants and vitamins help maintain overall gum and dental health.
  4. Fluoridated water: Drink fluoridated water, as it helps in preventing tooth erosion.
  5. Use Mouthwash regularly: Use an antiseptic mouthwash to keep your mouth bacteria free. Bacteria in your mouth can lead to rapid tooth erosion.
  6. Rinse your mouth: Rinse your mouth with water after every meal. Rinsing helps in removing food particles from your mouth that may contribute to tooth erosion.
  7. Avoid junk food: Avoid snacking on junk foods as they contain hidden sugars that can increase your risks of tooth erosion. Avoid sugar based drinks as they can harm your teeth and cause cavities.
  8. Dental sealants: A sealant is a coating that is applied on the tooth to prevent it from getting affected by plaque. They usually last for 8-10 years after which they need to be replaced.
  9. Visit the dentist regularly: Visit the dentist on a regular basis for check-ups as any underlying issue that can create potential problems in the future may need to be resolved.

Yellowish teeth teeth changes its colour as we all age due to dietary habits ie, carbonated drinks contain colours, red wine, few fruit juices (pomegranate, raspberry, cranberry, etc.), tea, coffee, turmeric used for foods sometimes depending on the area you reside the increased amount of iron in your water can also discolour your teeth. Lets understand this better, tooth has a top layer called" enamel" - white layer tooth has the layer beneath this called" dentine"- yellow layer enamel is white- white layer dentine is yellow- yellow layer if you see all the young kids, including you during your younger age will have white teeth. Due to the presence is more of white layer. As we advance with age the teeth change its colour to yellowish. Because the white layer becomes thin and the yellow layer shows from inside. So this is natural and nothing to worry about it. Well apart from this the foods we consume as I mentioned earlier can also stain the teeth which needs professional cleaning by the dentist. But professional cleaning will take away the stain on the surface but not whiten your teeth. Yes there are proceedures like" bleaching, done with caution can whiten your teeth. Please discuss this with your dentist. Caution: please do not use any whitening products for teeth sold online or in shops as they can be more abrasive and acidic making the teeth loose its luster and also make it more yellowish over a period of time also do not try home remedies like baking soda, lime, salt, vinegar as these are highly acidic and abrasive and will make your teeth rough as well as loose the white layer of your teeth more quickly. Please visit your dentist for professional help and discussion I hope I clarified you. If you need more clarification then ping me.

Hello thanks for the query reason for bad breath, blood from gums can be many but most common reason is accumulation of plaque and tartar on tooth surfaces. Which leads to swelling and smell from gums. Treatment for the same is scaling (teeth cleaning) and flap procedure for the same visit a periodontist (gum specialist dentist) he can help you better in this.
