Deficiency in vitamin D can cause bone and joint pain. Since your triglyceride level is high certain changes in dietary habits could benefit you from improving your Vit D level as well as reducing triglycerides. Reduce refined sugar, include low carbohydrate, high fiber diet. Avoid hydrogenated oil and processed foods and include healthy fats like olive oil, omega 3 fatty acids which are found in sardines, tuna etc, nuts etc. For foot pain external application of medicated oils and massage can be beneficial. Please consult an ayurvedic physician for further treatment advise.

5 Benefits Of Oil Pulling

5 Benefits Of Oil Pulling

Oil pulling has gained popularity in the recent years. This technique has been mentioned in Ayurvedic texts under Dinacharya (set of activities done daily to keep a person healthy).

What is oil Pulling

It is a cost effective way to get rid of harmful bacteria from the oral cavity. After waking up in the morning use about 10 ml of oil and swish it around your mouth for about 15-20 minutes and spit it out. Avoid swallowing the oil as you will be swallowing the bacteria along with it.   Brush and clean your tongue after oil pulling.

When you swish oil in your mouth it percolates into your gums and periodontal pockets and pulls out all the harmful bacteria from your mouth.

Which  oil should I use?

Sesame oil or coconut oil can be used for oil pulling.

Benefits of oil pulling

  • Strengthens the jaw muscles.
  • Prevents accumulation of dental plaque, gingivitis and bad breath.
  • Improves blood circulation to your facial muscles and helps in toning facial muscles.
  • Some bacteria in the mouth can enter the circulatory system through bleeding gums and cause inflammatory disorders of heart and joints. Regular use of oil pulling can be beneficial in preventing these diseases.
  • Improves lymphatic circulation which can be beneficial in sinusitis and allergies.

Please reduce the amount of refined sugar, processed food, sugary beverages. Consume whole grain cereals. Include soluble fiber like oats and barley. Barley is good for weight loss as well as reducing cholesterol. Soak a teaspoon of fenugreek in water and overnight and consume it in the morning. Increase servings of fruits and vegetables. Exercise for at least 30 minutes a day. Losing weight can definitely help you to decrease the cholesterol levels. The excess sugar you eat is converted into fat. So eliminate sugar from all possible sources like starchy vegetables, sweets etc.
