Asthma is an inflammatory disease, which affects the airways of your lungs (respiratory tract that pumps oxygen into the lungs). It is long term in nature. It is characterized by shortness of breath, coughing and wheezing. It occurs few times a day or few times a week depending on the person it affects. Sometimes it worsens during the night.

What triggers Asthma?

  1. Airborne particles such as dust mites, mold spores, pollen and cockroach waste.
  2. Infections in the respiratory system such as common cold.
  3. Cold air can also trigger asthma.
  4. Physical or outdoor activities which make you pant such as running, skipping, jogging and jumping can cause shortness of breath, thus triggering asthma.
  5. Pollutants and irritants in air such as smoke.
  6. Some medications can also trigger asthma.
  7. Stress and nervous attacks (panic attacks) also trigger asthma.

How to manage asthma better by changing your lifestyle:

  1. Try to avoid keeping animals in your house such as dogs, cats and rabbits. Many times animal fur, waste, urine and saliva contains particles which can cause allergic reactions and make you cough uncontrollably. This in turn triggers asthma attacks. If you have pets try keeping them away from your bedroom.
  2. Dust mites also cause allergies which trigger asthma. So wash your carpets, rugs, bed-linen and pillowcases in hot water.
  3. Bugs and insects such as cockroaches are not only unhygienic, but can also trigger asthma. Cockroach droppings near your bed, kitchen and food are dangerous and you should call an exterminator to get rid of these bugs.
  4. Sometimes, heavy fragrance also aggravates your respiratory tract and triggers shortness of breath. Avoid using heavy perfumes, deodorants and room fresheners.
  5. Pollution also triggers asthma. Dust particles come out from the vehicles and mix with the air. If this air is inhaled, it might trigger uncontrollable asthma. So try to cover your mouth with a cloth when you step out of your house.

Asthma can be very severe and can bring many hurdles in your day to day activities. Changing your lifestyle and certain habits can reduce asthma to a great extent. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a pulmonologist.

Avoid sitting Cross legged. Avoid Squatting- Quadriceps Exercises- Lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core Strengthening Exercise- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day.

1. Omega-3 fatty acids-the foods to eat: flaxseeds, walnuts, salmon, tuna, kale, brussels sprouts, rapeseed oil. 2. Zinc-the foods to eat: chickpeas, wheat germ, oysters, beef, veal liver, roast beef. 3. Protein-the foods to eat: greek yogurt, egg yolks, kale, peanuts, beans, peas, lentils, tofu, chicken, turkey. 4. Iron-the foods to eat: dark leafy greens, whole grains, beans, red meat, turkey, egg yolks, clams, mussels, oysters. 5. Vitamins a and c-the foods to eat: swiss chard, spinach, broccoli, sweet potatoes, pumpkin. 6. Magnesium-the foods to eat: almonds, spinach, cashews, lentils, brown rice, halibut. 7. Selenium-the foods to eat: brazil nuts, tuna, halibut, shrimp sardines, ham.

Ok, I got that, there are few tips which might be helpful to you-: 1. Indulge in sport activities like basketball, volleyball which will help your body to stretch. 2. Avoid fatty and junk food, instead have more protein rich diet which include eggs, soyabean, chicken breast, fatty fish, cottage cheese. 3. Skipping, stretching and running might be helpful to you. 4. Manage your stress levels and avoid any addiction you have which include smoking, alcohol, tobacco chewing. 5. Take adequate sleep and keep your body hydrated by taking lots of water and other healthy fluids.

Not at all your weight at present is good as per height.Avoid over eating ,carbohydrayes rich proteins eggs nonveg. Do arobic excersices yoga pranayam will help to stop gaining weight.Dr. Tare

Hi, lybrate-user there could be many reasons for weight gain. When you gain weight then obviously several other problems arises. To lose weight we need to focus upon some basic food plan like cutting down on grains and sugar. This helps immediately. We should avoid processed food. The healthy weight loss diet should contain ample amount of vegetable with sufficient protein. Taking some dietary supplements which helps in weight loss as well. Sample diet plan breakfast - russian salad with boiled eggs. Lunch - cooked vegetable + 1 chapatti +salad +curd. Dinner - paneer tikka with green chutney. Snacks - dry fruits and nuts with green tea. Suggested supplements microfruit tablet -- daily after breakfast cytofresh tablets-- daily after breakfast lipolyzer tummy tablet daily--after lunch and dinner.

Hello, Short heightedness can be due to heredity reasons (genetics), lack of proper nutrition: lacking in essential vitamins and minerals, substance abuse, lack of sufficient physical activity, endocrinal/hormonal problems, mostly related to hypofunctional pituitary gland. Also, problems with bone formation and calcification are responsible for shorter stature and built. Human Growth Hormone (HGH) also plays a determining part. HGH is secreted by pituitary gland and it is directly connected to how long your bones and cartilages grow. Here are some home remedies that you should include right away to increase your height naturally: ASHWAGANDHA: Ashwagandha can indirectly influence the release of HGH and helps the body in overall development. Take 1 tablespoon of Ashwagandha powder with a glass of warm milk (preferably with 1 tablespoon of shakkar) at night before going to bed. OTHER HERBS: You can also try some other beneficial herbs like shilajit, shatavari, guduchi, amla, and guggul. BALANCED DIET: Eat a High protein diet with chicken breasts and chicken soup, Bone broth, fish, eggs, Milk and other dairy products. Also, eat all seasonal fruits and vegetables (especially broccoli, spinach and turnips). WATER: Drink plenty of water (at least 5 litres) every day to keep yourself hydrated and to promote bone and muscle growth. Also drink 3 cups of green tea every day. CALCIUM: Calcium is a height booster as your bones are primarily made of calcium. Take a calcium supplement with Vitamin D, magnesium and zinc (at night). MULTI-VITAMIN: Also, taking a high quality multi-vitamin for a month or two helps to provide other essential nutrients to your body for overall development. EXERCISE: Exercise is probably the most important factor. You must give your body a stimulus (or reason) to grow. Do cycling, running, sprinting, Yoga, and meditation. Also, do skipping for at least 20 minutes each day in an open area. Do take part in sport activities like badminton, tennis, basketball, or any other sport of your choice for all round development of the body. Growth hormone supplements could be taken but consult your general physician first.
