Thyroid Disorder Treatment - Ayurvedic Remedies That Help Treat it

Thyroid has become a common ailment among most women in India nowadays. It is triggered due to the presence of impurities in the blood, which lead to hormonal imbalances and therefore, a number of symptoms, including anorexia, unhealthy weight gain, loss of energy, weakness and fatigue are experienced. But in case of hyperthyroid, you will notice an increased metabolic activity, a rise in pulse rate, loss of weight and palpitation.

Irrespective of whether you are suffering from hyperthyroid or hypothyroid, Ayurvedic treatment has some viable solutions that are aimed at elevating your health condition.

Ayurveda and thyroid

Though there is no direct mention of thyroid in the Ayurvedic texts, there are major implications that hint towards a disease like thyroid that is caused due to imbalance of body fluid and its probable treatments. Thyroid imbalance can be controlled by the following treatment regimen that includes:

1. Dietary regulations: As per Charaka, thyroid doesn’t affect those individuals who take milk in adequate quantities. In addition, you must take moong seeds, bengal gram seeds, sugarcane, cucumber, barley and old rice in optimum amounts for prevention of thyroid. In case you are already suffering from thyroid imbalance, then you must also aim at having a considerable amount of milk on a regular basis.

2. Herbs for regulating thyroid: The herb named Purple Mountain Ebony is purposely helpful in the treatment as well as proper functioning of the thyroid gland. In addition to this herb, you must also intake Punarnava, Brahmi, Jatamansi, Gokshura and Shilajita for alleviating your thyroid problems.

3. Home remedies: If there is swelling in any part of the body caused due to thyroid imbalances, then it can be properly treated by applying a fine paste of Jalakumbhi over the affected area. The juice of this paste can be administered in a small quantity of 22 grams in a span of 24 hours. It helps to increase the amount of iodine in the body which helps to fix various problems in the body. If you are experiencing a lack of energy and weakness, you can use coconut oil for boosting the sluggish metabolism of the body.

4. Yoga for treating thyroid: There are various Yogic postures, which are believed to help in the maintenance of the thyroid gland. You can practice sun salutation, fish pose and shoulder stand for alleviating your condition and get rid of all types of health issues caused from thyroid imbalances.

If you wish to get a personalised evaluation of your health condition, then it is imperative to pay a visit to an expert who can recommend proper Ayurvedic treatment methods for you.

lybrate-user, Aap ki blood glucose level dono khali pet aur khane ke baad jyada hai. Isaka matalab abhi jo dava aap le rahi ho, use ya to badhana padega ya badalana padega. For good control khali pet blood glucose 100 mg ke pas rehana chahiye aur khane ke baad 150 mg to 160 mg / 100 ml and H bA1c%<6.8 hona chahiye. Diabetes me meetha (sweets) khana acchha nahi. Usase glucose ki matra bahut jaldi badhati hai. Aap ka present treatment ko thoda badalna padega esa lagata hai Thanks.

Hi thanks for the query. For a diabetic it is best advised to have a diet planned as per the sugar levels, lifestyle and history. Though you can follow some guidelines - have small frequent meals. Do not fast for long hours. Avoid a very heavy meal at one time. Avoid fruit juices, aerated drinks or sugarcane juice, honey, jaggery or sugar. Avoid junk foods. Exercise and stay active. Do not attempt to try out too many remedies as you could go into hypoglycaemia. Sleep well. It's all a matter of discipline.

A therapeutic diet in itself can solve many of your problems. Dietary therapy prescribed by a registered dietitian is needed. You need to provide me daily food intake example. There are many lifestyle and dietary guidelines that can be followed. Eat a balanced diet as prescribed by a registered dietitian, I being a registered dietitian and doctor have been successfully helping patients achieve their optimum weight goals and help in several diseases. The best diet is one which is healthy and well balanced with foods from all the food groups, and one which is varied and that you can stick to I being a registered dietitian strongly accommodate the patients own preferences without the patient feeling that they are on a diet not compromising the weight management goals. I will also prescribe medicines that will speed up the time to achieve your weight management goals and help heal many of your lifestyle diseases. Check my tips blog on lybrate to see more details on healthy diet for your problems. I will need to carry out detailed assessment in your case, after assessing your personal challenges to weight management, I will recommend a strategy to gradually change habits and attitudes that have sabotaged your past efforts. Too much cholesterol in the blood can lead to cardiovascular disease. What you eat has a direct impact on your cholesterol level. In fact, a diet rich in fiber and other cholesterol-lowering foods may help lower cholesterol as much as statin medication for some people. Working with a registered dietitian and doctor is the key to develop and maintain a successful health program to manage it. I will inform you on how to make diet, lifestyle changes, make you understand instructions for taking medication because it won't work if you don't take it as directed. Consult privately for a holistic dietary therapy to solve your problems.

Mr B A Kumar, Most patients with T2 DM some time later in disease have to shift on to Insulin as beta cell function progressively reduces. This may happen after 10, 15 or 20 years of having diabetes. You have mentioned that glucose levels are in control, if so then the level should be : Fasting closer to 100 mg and PP should be 150 to 160 mg and HbA1c% <7. If that is achieved then general health will be invariably good. Plus daily exercise for 1 hour and properly planned diet which gives exact amount of calories based on sugar levels, ideal body weight and extent of daily exercise. If you want any specific suggestions please come back with details like fasting and PP sugar levels, HbA1c%, dietary pattern and any other doubt that you may have.

Mr. Lybrate-user, the various things you have mentioned are some what inter related but everything can not be predicted as you may be thinking. Various things can cause problem with heart. High cholesterol can cause blocks in the coronary artery which can lead to angina or later myocardial infarction (heart attack). High blood pressure puts extra work load on the heart. Diabetes does affect large blood vessels (coronary artery) and also aids dyslipidemia. Tests like echocardiogram and angiography do help in identifying possible causes leading to heart attacks.

I am 27 years old. I had TSH @ 3.22 range, I am using 25mg tablets at morning every day from two years. How long I could use medicine? Is there any way to reduce completely in?

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Ludhiana
The answer is homoeopathy. I do not force you for it but I will advise you to give it a try so as to get rid of life long medicines and that too with side effects. Although you nay find it difficult to take regular doses of homoeo medicines daily as compared to one tablet of allopathic medicine that you are taking but the end with homoeopathic medicines is always fruitful, if you get the right treatment in the hands of a right homoeo doctor----------------------
