How to Manage Sensitive Skin

How to Manage Sensitive Skin

People tend to believe that they have sensitive skin when they use certain products that don't suit them and causes some redness, itching, blotches, rashes, etc. However, this is not true. Sensitive skin is actually used to describe a condition when skin develops rashes, skin bumps, erosions, pustules, blotches, redness and so on when exposed to harsh weather conditions such as extreme heat, wind or cold.

There are some common skin ailments for that may harm a sensitive skin; i.e. Acne, rosacea, burning and stinging as well as contact dermatitis or irritants and allergies. Skin can be sensitive on any part of the body, including legs, arms, hands, etc. but it is most noticeable on the face though. The degree of sensitivity varies from person to person. Sensitive skin easily reacts when exposed to sunlight or wind. Also, such a skin is more prone to dryness, itchiness and redness. So, in case you have a sensitive skin you need to be extra cautious with the foods you eat and the products you use.

Precautions to be taken in case of a sensitive skin:

  1. First of all, you need to find out what is causing the problem. Is it food, weather or a product and stop using/avoiding those things to protect your skin.
  2. Wash your face with a mild cleanser twice a day.
  3. Do not overload yourself with several skin care products like toners, scrubs, packs, and variety of creams.
  4. Keep a healthy, balanced diet which is rich in antioxidants such as Vitamins A, C and E. Also increase your intake of anti-inflammatory spices such as turmeric, ginger, cinnamon and black pepper.
  5. Exercise daily to ensure a good circulation to the skin.
  6. Drink at least eight glasses of water daily. Adding lemon gives your skin the much needed Vitamin C.
  7. Choose natural and soft fabrics such as silk and cotton for sensitive skin.
  8. Avoid exposing your skin to too hot or cold water .
  9. Avoid using skin care and cosmetic products that have alcohol, harsh exfoliants, petrochemicals, acids, or synthetic fragrances as these can irritate the skin.
  10. While trying a new product make sure to do a trial test on the skin especially on your inner arm or behind your ear.
  11. Use a good broad spectrum sunscreen which is non comedogenic, paraben and fragrance-free.
  12. Try to reduce stress in life by resorting to activities such as meditation, yoga, or walking.
  13. Get enough restful sleep to enable your body clock to function normally, which will give you clear skin.

However, if you do have any prolonged, unexplained skin reaction then you should consult dermatologist who might conduct a skin allergy test to identify the root cause of the problem. Finally, limit your alcohol intake.

Hi Hasmina I will tell you a very simple and long term solution. Rub fresh papaya peel on the dark area on daily basis and wash it after few minutes. It will help to get rid of the darkness. It will take some time to show its effects so you need to be patient. If there is no change after 1 month then report me back, I will suggest medicines.

My friend got a small black dot on her waist. Apparently it wasn't there before and she's pretty sure it isn't a mole. It's very small but visible. Like a dot made by a pencil.

Hello lybrate-user, use biotin supplements, A balanced diet is the most effective solution to control greying of hair. Include lots of fresh fruits, vegetables, protein rich sources of food in your diet. Load up on food items containing antioxidant and vitamin C like gooseberry, oranges, lemon etc. Try to stay stress free, limit your on-screen time, do exercises and yoga that will increase oxygen in your body and hair. Some cost effective hair care tips at home can also give you wonderful hair and prevent further greying - Give warm oil massage to your hair with different oils like sesame, olive oil, castor oil. Put protein rich hair packs made of egg. If you want to stay chemical free than you can try some natural conditioners like thyme, rosemary tea, chamomile tea or sage tea to rinse your hair post hair wash. Start a good hair regimen by selecting right shampoo and conditioners. A professional hair and scalp analysis to get right hair care products for you is worth than spending time and energy on wrong products. Make a visit to your nearest dermatologist soon to get head turning hair.

With age, your skin loses its firmness and elasticity slowly leaving open pores which look very upsetting especially upfront. It's very important not to use any form of products available in the market for this on your face. Instead what you can do is use an oatmeal scrub which you can prepare at home using some oat flakes n honey. This vil help reduce the pores and moisturise your skin. Do this twice daily and a month later you can top up this method with some medication which vil bring significant changes. there are a lot of food which can bring back the glow in your skin. There, s more to them than just colours and being fruits and vegetables. They act at a molecular level to maintain the color, tone, texture of skin. Have plenty of fruits especially colored ones, blue and purple fruits like grapes, blackberries, blackcurrants, blueberries, plums, egg plants, strawberries, cranberries are rich in anthocyanin phytonutrients which is a potent antioxidant which repairs collagen and smoothes the skin. Tomatoes contain lycopene and they r the most powerful antioxidant which protects the skin from ageing effects like wrinkles, blemishes, pigmented spots, darkness and dullness.
