Some persons suggest me that, if you want to eat rice daily, then brown rice is best. Problem is that when I went for purchase I saw similar nutrients composition on the pack of both brown and white rice. If there is no difference then why brown rice?

Brown rice is better since it is unpolished, It has more nutrients and fiber. It is good for diabetics and overweight persons. It is also good for digestion. White rice has more carbs and its consumption should be reduced.

To gain some weight, you need to eat healthy and natural food + daily exercise. Take at least two fruits per day and one glass fruit juice.  Eat 20 almonds & 5 dates daily. Drink full cream milk, curd, lassi, banana shakes etc.If your are Non veg you can have more eggs, chicken, fish.  For Veg - have more dals, rajma, kabuli chana, soya beans etc.Avoid junk food and colas. Avoid chips and other namkeen. No need for any extra supplements. Natural diet is best. Go for 30 mins walks / exercise / yoga daily. Feel confident about yourself. All the best!

My son is 9 years. He is 145 cm 70 kg. His body is as though it is full of fluids. Right from his birth his weight has been increasing steadily. He is always watching TV mobile and computer. He never goes out and plays. Please suggest how to reduce his weight.

1. Get his basic comprehensive tests done including Thyroid. Currently his BMI is 33+ which is on Obese category. 2. If there is no biological issue then you have to take care of diet + daily exercise. 3. He needs to be on a 1500 calories diet. 4. Remove all junk food, biscuits, chocolates, sweets from home, fridge, cupboards. 5. Everyone at home must switch to simple natural foods, with more salads and fruits. This is important that whole family follows one diet. 6. No ordering from outside except once a week. 7. For two hours in the evening shut down all Cable TV, Net, Phones everything and family or whoever is at home must move out to play / excercise. 8. Do not criticize the boy or call any names. He needs support, guidance and encouragement. 9. It is not his problem alone, the whole family must rise to this challenge and work together to resolve this issue. 10. Visit a physician + a dietitian and begin the process of change. 11. Do not go/look for short cuts like 'magic weight loss' pills / teas/ coffee / belts / shakes. None of that works. 12. Only a sensible, natural lifestyle change will work. Everyone in the family needs to switch to better habits and take your boy along in this change.

Weight reduction happens due to personal effort and discipline. There are no medicines for weight loss. There are not short cuts to good health and fitness. You can see how much effort stars put in gyms to stay fit. If there were medicines to stay fit, they could have just taken pills to stay fit. Regular diet + daily exercise is the only and only way to stay fit. Better consult a dietician for a proper long term plan. At your current age, you would face a lot of health issues with this weight. Better change you lifestyle and food habits now.

Take one roti at night with some salads and a bowl of dal. It is not good to skip meals. Instead of walking, you can start alternate walking and jogging. That will increase the calories/fat burn. Consult a dietician for a proper meal plan.

You can use a healthy mix of PUFA (Sunflower / Rice Bran et) and MUFA oils (Olive / Groudnut). Total in a day, you should not exceed 4 teaspoons of oil. You can take different oils on weekly basis. Some bit of oils you will also get from the seeds /nuts in your food like almonds, pumpkin seeds etc.

Hi, My age is 22 and I am a student. My height is 5'8" and weight is 70 kg. I want to reduce weight up to 5 kg. And want to know 2 cup of indian tea per day is good or it will be weight gainer. I already reduced my daily meal to 5 average sized chapati and spicy without rice two times a day. I run 2 km every morning and drink hot lime water before running in the morning. And also I drink water at room temperature all the day (not chilled water). I want to know other suggestions for reducing weight.

You can reduce 5 kgs over next 2-3 months through proper diet + exercise. However certain modifications are needed. 1. 2 Cups of tea per day is okay, it is not high 2. Five chapatis per meal is high. You can have 2-3 chapatis and add compulsory veg salad to every meal. 3. Running two km is very low. It will burn about 150 calories. You need to do upto 60 mins of run, jog, exercise daily. 4. Lime water, cold water or hot water does not do anything for weight loss. It is just good necessary hydration for the body, which is needed. However it does not contribute to weight loss. 5. Take 2-3 fruits everyday.
