Valvular Heart Disease - 5 Reasons Behind it

DHMS
Homeopath, Mumbai
Valvular Heart Disease - 5 Reasons Behind it

There are valves in the each of the four chambers of the heart. These valves make sure that blood flows in one direction only. The blood flows from the atria into the ventricles through the mitral and the tricuspid valves. The pulmonic and the aortic valves allow the blood to flow out of the ventricles. Valve problems occur when the normal functioning of the valve is impaired.

Impaired valve function leads to blood flow obstruction, which in turn can lead to stenosis of the valve. This puts lot of strain on the heart muscles, forcing it to work harder. It may also lead to the blood flowing backwards through the valve and back into the heart.

The various causes of valvular heart disease are:

  1. Valvular heart disease: If you are suffering from rheumatic fever, it may lead to valvular heart disease
  2. Congenital heart disease: Congenital heart disease refers to various defects in the heart which are present since birth. In some cases, these defects may include being born with abnormal valves.
  3. Heart attack: If you have suffered a heart attack, your heart muscles may be damaged or impaired.
  4. Cardiomyopathy: This is a genetic disorder that is characterized by an inability of the heart to pump blood efficiently.
  5. Age: Ageing may cause certain changes in the body that lead to valvular heart disease.

Valvular heart disease is treated by various homeopathic remedies that do not have any side effect. It takes a holistic approach to healing the body as it gets to the root of the disease. The various homeopathic remedies for valvular heart disease are:

  1. Cactus grandiflorus: This remedy is used in a number of heart complications such as stenosis of the valve. It helps in getting rid of the inflammation in the heart muscles, so that the heart can pump blood efficiently.
  2. Digitalis: Digitalis is another remedy that helps in healing the muscles of the heart by regulating the pulse.
  3. Kalmia latifolia: Kalmia latifolia is a homeopathic remedy that is used in treating various complications of the heart. It also helps in symptoms of rheumatic fever that may lead to valvular heart disease.

Hi lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking help. I advise you to consult a diabetologist who can advise medications appropriately to control your triglyceride levels. Simultaneously, you will require to streamline your diet and restrict salt, sweets, oily, greasy, high calorie and fried stuff including fast foods. Try restrict carbohydrate intake to whole grain cereals, whole wheat/ brown bread etc all. Take fresh & fibrous fruits (especially apples) & vegetables and stay hydrated, drinking at least 8 - 10 glasses of water daily. Additionally, omega-3s, vegetable oils with PUFA, garlic, amla, cayenne, green tea, vitamin D, fenugreek (methi), isabgol, flaxseed etc all can be of help here. It is also important that you streamline your lifestyle, exercise daily for at least 45 minutes, and try reducing your stress levels at work and also at home. Certain yogasanas (especially Vajrasana) & pranayams also help control cholesterol & obesity both. Daily relaxation is equally important for your heath as diet & lifestyle is. At the same time it is also advisable for one to restrict alcohol & stop smoking completely. Hope this helps. Do take care and all the very best. Sincerely,

I am 24 years female. I felt shivering coming from my spine to other parts. My heart is beating fast. Feeling nausea....
When your body temperature decreases, in an attempt to restore the former optimum temperature, the Brain and spinal cord tells your muscles to tighten and relax one after the other. This causes the sudden electrical shiver down your spine. This is an evolutionary quirk. Cimicifuga. [homeopathic medicine] This remedy is especially adapted to the reflex form of spinal irritation arising from uterine complaints, and where the lumbar region is most affected. There is sensitiveness to pressure on the upper and lower cervical vertebrae; the patient cannot lean back in a chair; pains change about from one part to another. The pressure also sometimes causes nausea, and there is weakness of the lower extremities and aching in the lumbar region.

If the chest discomfort occurs after food intake, then Acid Reflux into esophagus should be considered, especially if it is relieved after taking water. Acid suppressants can help. Oily food to be avoided. The other possibility is stress causing chest discomfort.

5 Tips to Keep Your Heart Fit!

5 Tips to Keep Your Heart Fit!

The heart is one part of your body that pumps blood relentlessly; to be grateful to the most important organ, it’s your duty to look after its health. Cardiovascular diseases and heart ailments can be prevented by making minor changes in your lifestyle.

Here are a few tips to keep your heart healthy:

  1. Add fiber to your diet: Making fiber a part of your regular diet is a great idea as the heart works best when it runs on natural fuel. You can achieve this by adding more raw fruits and vegetables in your meals as they are an excellent source of fiber and nutrients.
  2. Engage in physical activity: Your heart is a muscle and to make it healthier, you need some form of physical exercise. Engaging in cardiovascular forms of exercise for an hour daily keeps your heart in good condition. Engaging in physical activity also reduces the risk of getting a heart disease and acts as a stress buster.
  3. Cut down on the salt intake: The sodium content in salt disrupts the balance of fluids in your body leading to high blood pressure. This can affect the functioning of the heart; that is to pump blood, which is a major cause of a heart attack. So, cutting down on salt can reduce stress and the risks of heart attacks.
  4. Manage your weight: People on the overweight side run a risk of getting heart diseases more often than fit and leaner ones as they tend to be more inactive and sluggish. The heart diseases caused due to obesity can be avoided by making minor changes to your diet and exercising on a daily basis.
  5. Quit smoking: If you are a regular smoker, quitting is the best thing you can do for your heart. The main reason for coronary heart diseases is nicotine present in the cigarette. Once, you quit smoking completely, you will be 50% less likely to run the risks of a heart attack as compared to a regular smoker. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dietitian-nutritionist and ask a free question.

Pulmonary Hypertension - 10 Ways to Treat it

Pulmonary Hypertension - 10 Ways to Treat it

Pulmonary hypertension is a medical condition that arises when the blood pressure remains consistently high in the vessels of the lungs. This condition can develop from a completely unrelated medical condition and is more prevalent among women.

Pulmonary Hypertension can be a hard disease to diagnose. While it has no permanent cure, the medication depends on how far the disease has advanced. From group 1 PAH to group 5 PAH, pulmonary hypertension has 5 stages of advancement.

Here is a list of 10 ways by which this disease can be kept under control along with the prescribed medication:

  1. Quit smoking: Smoking aggravates pulmonary hypertension. It has adverse effects on both the heart and the lung. It is therefore of utmost importance to quit smoking. If you fail to control your urge of smoking, contact your doctor who can suggest a quitting plan.
  2. Avoid high altitude: Patients suffering from pulmonary hypertension should avoid flying and living at high altitude. An altitude of 8000 feet and above can worsen the symptoms. It is therefore suggested that you do not take flights for travelling or come down below the altitude of 2428 meters if you are living in hilly areas.
  3. A healthy diet: A healthy diet consisting of fresh fruit and vegetables, lean meat and whole grains should be consumed on a daily basis. A nutritious diet goes a long way in keeping pulmonary hypertension in check.
  4. Adequate rest: A minimum of 8 hours of sleep is recommended for patients suffering from pulmonary hypertension. A good night’s sleep and frequent naps keeps fatigue at bay.
  5. Pregnancy and birth control pills: Avoiding pregnancy is a must for patients suffering from this disease. Pregnancy can be life threatening for the both the baby and the mother. Birth control pills should be avoided as well. It greatly increases the chance of blood clots.
  6. Maintain a steady blood pressure: Any activities that lower the blood pressure should be avoided by all means. Spending too much time in a bathtub or prolonged stress increases the chances fainting.
  7. Become more active: Patients of pulmonary hypertension often run out of breath with little to no activity. While activities such as weight lifting should be strictly avoided, some exercise or daily jogging can fetch good result in keeping a patient healthy.
  8. Get vaccine on time: Doctors often suggest vaccines if the patient suffers from pneumonia or influenza. It should be ensured that such vaccines are taken on time. For patients suffering from pulmonary hypertension, prolonged exposure to diseases such as pneumonia can wreak havoc.
  9. Regular checkup: Regular follow up with the doctor is of prime importance. Any possible side effects or deterioration can be arrested with constant supervision.
  10. On time medication: Patients of pulmonary hypertension should ensure that all the medicines suggested by the doctor are taken at regular intervals as per prescribed dosage.
