Common causes of Stomach Cramps are indigestion, menstrual cycle, injury, constipation, stomach ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome, diarrhea and stomach infections. Symptoms are mild to intense pain in the stomach. Related symptoms are:
• Inability to keep food down for more than 2 days
• Inability to pass stools
• Painful or frequent urination
• Tenderness in abdomen
HOW IS STOMACH CRAMPS DIAGNOSED?
Tests that may be done include:
• Barium enema
• Blood, urine, and stool tests
• CT scan
• Colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy (tube through the rectum into the colon)
• EKG (electrocardiogram) or heart tracing
• Ultrasound of the abdomen
• Upper endoscopy (tube through the mouth into the esophagus, stomach and upper small intestine)
• Upper GI (gastrointestinal) and small bowel series
• X-rays of the abdomen
HOW IS STOMACH CRAMPS TREATED?
A general physician might give you pills or medication to provide relief from the pain. NSAIDS help here. Besides this, taking some hot compress and soaking in hot water also helps. In case the cramping is caused because of some blood clots or cysts then relevant medications are provided. Surgery may be needed in some cases.
