The term Rhinosporidiosis is used for defining the swelling or inflammation of the mucous membranes that eventually leads to various kinds of nasal diseases. Here the patient undergoes symptoms like local pruritus, coryza with sneezing, rhinorrhea and there is also discharge from the nose and heavy mucus coming out when coughing. In other cases, it can affect the eye to leading to Photophobia, redness, etc.
HOW IS RHINOSPORIDIOSIS DIAGNOSED?
Physical examination to detect Pink to deep red polyps with Strawberry like appearance which bleeds easily upon manipulation.Diagnosis is confirmed by biopsy and histopathology with several round or oval sporangia and spores which may be seen bursting through its chitinous wall
HOW IS RHINOSPORIDIOSIS TREATED?
Treatment of Rhinosporidiosis is surgical excision at the lesion base. Yearlong dose of medications is known to show effects on Rhinosporidiosis
