The condition in which the walls of the ventricles become stiff or rigid and are not able to expand as blood fills in the chambers is known as restrictive cardiomyopathy. Shortness of breath, fatigue and palpitations are the common signs of restrictive cardiomyopathy.
HOW IS RESTRICTIVE CARDIOMYOPATHY DIAGNOSED?
Tests such as electrocardiogram, stress test and MRI and CT scans could help a cardiologist diagnose this disorder. A biopsy of the heart muscle could also help in diagnosing restrictive cardiomyopathy.
HOW IS RESTRICTIVE CARDIOMYOPATHY TREATED?
Once the cause of Restrictive Cardiomyopathy is found, the appropriate treatment line is decided. Main goal of treatment is to control symptoms and improve quality of life. Blood thinning medicines, medicines to prevent abnormal heart rhythm, steroids and diuretics are other treatment options
