Liddle's syndrome is also known as Liddle syndrome and pseudohypoaldosteronism. This is basically an inherited form of genetic disorder that is again autosomal dominant. The common symptoms here include hypertension in children which is accompanied with low plasma renin and the blood potassium levels also go down. Alongside, weakness is also very common here.
HOW IS LIDDLE SYNDROME DIAGNOSED?
It is confirmed by blood and urinary electrolyte tests which show hypokalemia, decreased or normal plasma levels of renin and aldosterone, metabolic alkalosis with high sodium plasma levels, and low rates of urinary excretion of sodium and aldosterone with high rates of urinary potassium excretion. The diagnosis is confirmed by genetic testing.
HOW IS LIDDLE SYNDROME TREATED?
A diet low in sodium is advised to patients with this disorder. Diuretics such as amiloride and medicines for hypertension would be prescribed.
